Lunar Eclipse tonight, good and bad

The good, there’s a total lunar eclipse tonight at a reasonable hour plus Saturn is in the same region of the sky.

The bad, it’s raining like mad and the sky is completely clouded over for the next day or so.

Oh well, at least Mythbusters is doing a Macgyver special tonight, so Wed isn’t a total lost.

We dealt with this here, old chap: http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php?t=57736

It may be persisting down your end but at least you have civilised timing. We have to get up at three in the morning to see it this end.

Every time there is a major astrological event, there are clouds here. I did see an eclipse about 20 years ago. I stopped a business meeting for all of us to go outside and see it.

It’s 9:30 pm and -9 F and crystal clear out here in Minnesota. The moon is almost entirely blood red. Very beautiful but it’s hard to linger very long!

starting to come out of total…

I should be watching from the hot tub…this is stupid

it’s been gorgeous! like zero degrees F, but clear as a bell. The position of stars around it was very nice.

yeah! great from here also…

about 100 or so :smiling_imp:

It was clear and we could see it just fine. It never did turn a real red here like they were saying it was going to. I supposed I could find this somewhere on line - but does anybody know what the stars/planets were that made the big triangle by the moon?

Saturn (lower left) & Regulus (upper right)

You lucky people. :imp:

The english decided to share their weather with us scandinavians.

It was clouds, rain and a bit of fog here. :swear:

The sky here was clear as a bell at 8:00. I went out again at 8:45 to see the
start, and the sky had become completely covered in clouds. :swear:

The moon did show itself when it was back to about 80%, then disappeared again.

I might as well chime in on this one. It was cold, clear night here in central Indiana. Even in the middle of the city, the sky was dark enough to see the stars brighter than usual. Oh yes, the moon was doing something strange too. My wife and I put our coats on and went outside just as the orange-colored moon was nearing full eclipse at 10 PM. Now, if this would have happened at 3 AM, as some of you insist that it did, most likely I would have been snug in my bed and not out gazing at the stars.

I think it was happening at the same time both ends, Doug, but that darned terminator can’t be everywhere at the same time!

Kids and I went out just before 10PM to watch it go total here.
Clouds broke just in time!
