A quarter past eight in the evening for us here in the UK. We should just be settling in to our Yule Gathering by then. It’s likely to be overcast unfortunately, as it has been snowing enthusiastically for a few days and forecast to continue. The West Country reports rain (and thunderstorms) but they have always been odd.

Lunar eclipse and winter solstice

We’re in the middle of a 3-day rainstorm here, so no moon for us. Besides, I understand that when the moon gets wet the orange color gets washed out anyway.
It’s supposed to happpen sometime around 1930hrs here on the East Coast of Straylyah…
A beautiful Summers day here with a clear sky,so should be a good show.Only trouble is,it’s still daylight savings and it’s still pretty light at that time

Yep, you’re quite right. I couldn’t muster the enthusiasm to check, as it has been overcast and snowy for days. Small chance of seeing anything of the eclipse. I did imagine it was going to occur at the same time as our Yule celebrations, and others did as well. But the Yule gathering has been cancelled due to roads. (Lack of, passable).
It was amazingly bright (and tremendously cold) last night but when I got up at 6.30 there was cloud cover sprinkling a bit of snow.
A sickly orange yellow orb suspended in a fog enshrouded sky, I feared it was a bad omen for the day to come, but it cleared up and it’s sun shinny here. I’m hoping for clear skies on the next one in 460 years, haven’t heard a forecast as yet.

The skies were cloudy all day here, but Grandpa said they cleared up just in time and he was able to see the eclipse.
We had thin clouds but the moon was clearly visible through them. Hubby and I stepped out the front door for a quick look every 15 minutes or so. It was fairly “warm” (-10 F) but still a bit chilly to just stand around in one place and watch the moon. Still, it was fun to see, especially at solstice time.
