Isn’t he amazing? And all that with four strings! I take it you’re going to the concert, yes?
If you liked that guy, you’ll probably like this guy too. Another tenor uke player - James Hill.
Pretty darned good! He’s more jazz oriented than Jake S. Thanks for sharing.
So how was he?
I opted to go to OldSongs festival instead, so I missed him.
He was terrific. He played a little of everything from Flamenco to Michael Jackson (Thriller) to Beatles (While My Guitar Gently Weeps) and mostly his own compositions which displayed a great variety. I hope he achieves the mainstream popularity and exposure that he deserves.
He played totally solo: just his electrified Tenor uke and the PA system. He didn’t use any electric effects-- just a natural ukulele sound. That said, Jake achieved a wide range of tones and rhythmic effects on an instrument that most people associate with Tiny Tim and Tiptoe Through The Tulips.
How was Old Songs? I keep meaning to go, and then things like the Shimabukuro concert pop up.
OK, I know I probably shouldn’t, but I couldn’t resist one more. Here’s the legendary Roy Smeck doin’ it old school.
Sunday was nice.. nothing all that memorable. Sounds like Jake was more memorable than anything I saw Sunday. But, I didn’t stay for the night time concert.
I heard good things about the workshops at OldSongs on Saturday but I missed them.
