I really need to check out more klezmer music. This stuff IP plays is great, and I’m a big fan of Andy Statman’s mandolin playing. Some of it just seems impossible to play without grinning.

Yeah, Klez really rocks. Try to catch it live sometime.
And of course Perlman is da MAN. He’s a regular summer performer at Tanglewood and Saratoga Performing Arts Center and I’ve seen him live many times. Klez is a natural crossover for him.

Yeh, that stuff is fecking brilliant. What impressed me so much about the video is that Perlman was a newbie to the genre in practical terms, and he just got right in there and loved it.
Everyone was just enjoying themselves so much.
Another interesting vid is a clip of Stephane Grappelli playing on TV with Yehudi Menuhin. Yehudi admits that he couldn’t improvise per se but it’s great to see them rocking out together.
