… well, OK, maybe I’ve overstated it. But it didn’t 'arf make me smile. They’re so good. How can you imply all that sound and rhythm with two tiny little instruments like that and a couple of voices?
I enjoy music that is done in a style different than the original version. This was nice and unexpected. They did this song much good.
Picture us all as teens, gazing upon our sixty-year-old selves. Eyes wide. Mouths hanging open. ![]()
I think they should have let the dog have a bigger part…
Here’s some guy, with hair
I would be awe-struck at how my coolness factor had increased exponentially.
And then there’s Jake:
Right. You know it’s gotta be the presbyopic squint and ear tufts.
Jake is something else, isn’t he? Just looking at his version of Thriller there, I said to the SO “All that, and there’s just him and the uke - no plectrum, no finger picks, no thumb pick … no strap - just him and a box with 4 strings.” Ridiculously good.
I like Jake too, here he is on the River Spey. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soYBiTRSZt4
I’d saved this for a moment in the evening when I had time. I was looking forward to another display of ukelele brilliance. But you sold me a pup.
Yeah, Jake is amazing. I’ve been lucky enough to see him in person. In addition to being a truly superb musician, he also comes across as truly warm and genuine. He’s eager to mingle with the crowd after a concert and just seems to be having a ball playing music for people. I think he’s coming back to the Albany area this summer, and I hope to see him again.
I found a few more vids from The Re-Entrants last night. Never come across them before. There really is something about two blokes with ukes doing The Ace of Spades …
I must say, the Reentrant’s Thriller is the
most intelligible those lyrics have ever been!
Enjoyed both first video and Jake Shimabukuro’s!
Here’s another great MJ cover - not ukulele now, but still worth watching:
