Hi all,
I just moved to LA a couple weeks ago and was wondering where the good places to hear irish music and pipes in particular were. I saw a trio play last week in Santa Monica. They were very nice players, but they were more of a house band, not a real session. Plus no pipes to be heard. I’m currently in Burbank, but am willing to travel out of my way if there is good music to be heard. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
James
You need to vist our so Cal Pipers Club meeting in january. Log on to Pat D’arcy’s uillianobsession web site and navigate to the club site and get directions to Gabriels. See you in january. There is a session on Monday nites at the Celtic Arts center in San Fernando valley. You are close if you are in Burbank. Sounds like you went Finn McCools in Santa Monica on Sunday. Supposedly there’s an open session on Tuesday but other will have to confirm that.

Cool! Thanks alot. I’ll most likely be there on monday. Any good flute teachers likely to be there? I cant play the pipes anymore, but would like to start learning the flute. Thanks again.
James
Hey James,
Frank Simpson may be there; I don’t know if he’s giving lessons these days, but if not, he could certainly point you in the right direction.
Re: Finn McCools-- The Sunday session is often graced by the piping of our own Mr. D’Arcy, and it’s not unknown for the esteemed Eric Rigler to show up for a few tunes.
