Looking for live Irtrad in Lost Angeles

Hi all,
I am going to be visiting friends in LA this Sep 3-7. Are there any Irish music goings-on that our LA contingent would recommend? I’m not able to participate in sessions, I was looking for something like a live band or concert that my non-irish-music-loving friends might enjoy. Then again, if there is a kicking session that my friends might like, by all means let me know. Thanks for the help.

Finn McCools on Sunday afternoons is usually a great advanced session. Nice pub too. It is in south Santa Monica near the beach - almost into Venice Beach area.

there is the session at the celtic arts center Check http://www.celticartscenter.com/Main.htm. Slow session on Sunday, normal is Monday. There is a session at Finn McCools on tuesdays, but have never gone. The sunday session I believe is by invitation, I think

It’s the best thing going in the area. Also, nice location for visitors.. near the beach and all that.

I decided to buy his pub which had been in the family for years, and bring it here to America. I used to work there as a child and I learned how to pull pints of Guinness before I was ten ( and drink them before I was….) . Our crew took it apart timber by timber and shipped it right down to Main Street Santa Monica via the Panama canal. It was no easy feat to put together an Irish team of carpenters and specialty painters to fly out here and build it right into the space occupied by Jake & Annie’s. There is a genuine Irish teak bar with Celtic carvings and Irish furniture with woven donegal tweed cushions to recreate the genuine Irish ambiance.

I’m getting the impression that all the pubs in Ireland are now in America, given how many times this claim has been made. :roll:

HA HA! That’s a pretty long drive from L.A. to S.F. Besides, no one in S.F. has volunteered to let me stay with them! (Hint, Hint) Hey, just be happy for me that I’m getting out of Valdosta, Georgia. If only for a little while.

We have an extra room at our place in the South Bay if you ever want to visit. We’ll go check out that session at the Bodhran again. :slight_smile:
