I got an email from Jens today, who works for Andreas Rogge, and…
My half set will be ready in a few weeks!!!
After a much shorter wait time than I expected, I am about to become the proud owner of a snakewood and sterling silver half-set. Might even get the regs added, still deciding.
When did you place your order with Rogge for the snakewood 1/2 set?
What is the pitch wide or narrow bore? I had Left handed C full snakewood which I sold this year.
I was told by Andreas Rogge in February 2005 that he had no snakewood left.
Yeah, it’s been less than two years! I got the impression from the email I received that someone else cancelled, so I guess I got moved up the list. Maybe someone else ordered the same thing that I did and then cancelled, so it got made sooner?
It’s a regular wide-bore D.
I have the 2nd set of snakewood pipes made by Andreas in B the wait time back then was 1 year and that seemed long enough…snakewood is quite rare and expensive it is also the densest of all woods, but that is not the crucial factor…
When Andreas turns the wood he has to clear the workshop, thus the others can’t work, because the dust is poisonous. So quite apart from anything else there is a health and safety issue when working with snakewood…
The finish of the set however is beautiful

And she just sings sweetly…I love it …
please send my regards to them all when next ye mail them

Uilliam
There they say about the use:
“Walking sticks, umbrella handles, drum sticks, fishing rod buts, cue sticks, and inlay.”
So you’re not having something different than a drilled walking stick! Enjoy!
It looks beautiful, Uilliam…I am looking forward to getting its little sister.
I have not seen snakewood in person anywhere other than Rogge’s pipes, except once when I saw a designer pepper mill made of snakewood. I think it was for sale for several hundred dollars…Didn’t seem worth it for something you can’t play, though.
