Where can I find notes/tabs for the Irish Tin Whistle to play the “Hobbit-theme” of “Lord of the Rings”?
Good question - let me know if you find it!
My sister just listened to the soundtrack over and over until she had learned it by ear. I doubt you will find any music for it unless someone has the kindness to write it down themselves and post it.
Good luck, though! It’s a pretty tune.
ooh wow! This makes me want to see the movie more than ever…
Knowing that there’s whistle stuff in it, I mean.
There is an absolutely beautiful soundtrack, and whoever is playing flute or whistle or whatever it is plays very well. You should definately listen to it!
Welcome to the board, Frodo!
I am sorry to say I have no idea where to get the music, but if you find out…
Frodo
As my old Gaffer used to say “The Bestest way tae learn a tune is tae play by way of ear!” Have a look here for L.O.T.R. soundtrack…
LOTR](http://www.repriserec.com/lordoftherings/lotr_st_soundtrack.html%22%3ELOTR) Soundtrack
Time Warner has the sheet music (for piano/vocal/chords) available. You can find it here.
I bought it about two weeks ago. The music has six selections from the soundtrack, the “Hobbit theme” being one of them. The separate sheet music can also be found at the above site. I’ve heard that it can also be found on Ebay.

Stonewall. Which one of the books did you buy to get the Hobbit theme please? I can’t locate it in the UK.
I would also say learn it by ear. You’ll come out a better player for it. Great things happen by accident and when you pick a tune out by ear many accidents happen. Keep working at it and the tune will come.
I would like to recomend a recording to fans of LOTR. There are a number of LOTR inspired recordings out there. The soundtrack is fine and all but without the film it lacks the creative vision to conjure up the mood of the books. It’s a score and sounds like a score.
A fellow named Bo Hansson recorded an album in 72 inspired by the LOTR. It doesn’t have whistle but for the creative that leaves room open to play your own lines along to the record. It’s a great album full of dark imagery that runs the gamut, from urgency to the heavy wieght of bearing the ring. A very interesting recording that captures the mood quite well.
Just a suggestion.

The “Hobbit theme” is featured under the title “In Dreams.” I got the $14.95 edition because of the other tunes on it. Ignore the “Smashmouth” picture, it must be a goof on Time Warner’s part.
You may also want to contact your local music retailer and see of they can order direct from Time Warner. That’s how I purchased mine. Good luck.

Edit: Ebay’s got on auction for the LOTR music book going on here. However I don’t know if they ship overseas…

Jacko’s right re: the '72 recording. I bought it then and bought the cd last year. It really is very creative, a great recording.
so Frodo, I take it you’re a LotR fan? (was that a dumb question? I mean, who but a LotR fan would take a s/n like “Frodo” and then ask about the Hobbit theme from the “Fellowship” movie? ) more to the point, I am a LotR fan, and I enjoy finding other people who are as well, so I was just wondering. are you a fan of the books or just the movie?
anar kaluva tielyanna!
My friend taught me the Hobit theme on whistle( it’s actually called Concerning Hobits). It’s really simple and sounds great. Maybe someday I will write it down.

Neat! When and if you write it down, could you post it somewhere??
I think all of us whistlers and LOTR fans would love it.
Slightly off the topic, but Nickel Creek do a song called Tom Bombadil’s (sp) theme. Whilst a newcomer to the world of Tolkein (I was into Moorcock when I was a teenager… more acid swords and sorcery than wimpy Hobbits bursting into song!) I did manage to recognise the name… there can’t be two of them can there? Anyway… I found the track on either WinMX or Morpheus but have since deleted it.

Okays that’s my sad version of ABC, I have no clue really how to write it(if someone cares to fix it that would be wonderful). The lower case is the lower notes and the upper case is the high notes. It’s not completely correct, but it works most of the way. It’s also not all of the tune, but I am pretty sure people can figure out the rest from that.

I say, Stonewall,

Is Smashmouth really on the cover of the book or just on their web site listing?

No, its just on the web site. The cover is the same as the official movie poster. Check out the Ebay listing I posted. They’ve got more info there…
UK. I managed to get the Sheet Music from an on line shop. http://www.music-exchange.co.uk and at the moment there are no postal charges It cost me £10.99 but I’m sharing that with another person so I’m happy as I nearly ordered it from the states and it would have cost more. This shop only took 24 hours to post it to me.
