I know someone was looking for something like this literally AGES ago but I just stumbled across this page and though somebody might like it. I’ts a VERY good file lifted from the DVD with the whistle part fairly clear.
Anyhow, it’s the mp3 file marked “A Long Expected Party” if anyone wants it. Enjoy!
There’s a suite of music for band by Johann de Meij (YO-hon duh-MAY, I believe) that’s all inspired by LotR. Best movement is Gollum, which is essentially one huge and very impressive soprano sax solo. Gandalf is probably the most-played movement, though, as it’s hard to get a good soprano sax player in a high-school band. And this suite was written a few decades before the movies. I definitely suggest you try to get your hands on it, if you’re into classical music. I actually saw it at Wal-Mart back at the height of the LotR craze…
Sam! What a wonderful link… thank you soooo much for posting that!
It so happens to be that I’m the soul who tried picking out that tune. LOTR has some fun music. Listening to the recording from the link, I can tell I made a few mistakes already back then (hardly any surprise). It seems that with the editing out all the background stuff that some of the whistle sound isn’t as noticable though. Will have to go back and listen some more. But it is definately much clearer over all. Anyhow, here’s a link to the orignial thread talking about it.
The one link is dead, but the other still works. Forgot all about it being there, surprised it still works. Didn’t want to load very well on my slow computer, but it’s still there (all seven jpeg pages of it ).
Ahhhh… Time to go rent some LOTR videos again. (And do some LOTR whistling as soon as this cold goes away… aaachooo!)
Actually, it was written a bit less than a few decades before the movies came out…it was written in 1987 (premiered in 1988). I have a couple recordings of it…one is the original wind ensemble work…and recently there has been an orchestral version recorded (which is lovely). I was lucky enough to play in it once! Great piece of music.
