Oh boy,
I’ve crossed the line and started playing flute. And lemme tell you, those suckers are more costly than whistles. So it’s time to pare down the old whistle shelf, where my second string live (my first string whistles for the most part live on the front passenger seat of my car for reasons I won’t publically name).
O’Brien set: made by David O’Brien in Canada. Approximately four years old. My first foray into the strata of whistle above store-bought generations…etc. Has two head joints. Nickel plated copper, some plating wearing off, although David told me he’d replate them if I sent them to him. Set is Bb, C, D, Eb, E. Now going for $145 for a new set, but I remember paying less in the old days, and $80 seems fair to me now.
Freeman tweaked: Mellow Dog C/D set - two bodies, one head. Read up on it at irishflutestore.com. Set is in good shape, just not really what I want these days (although an experienced flute/whistle player fairly swooned over the C, but I wasn’t interested in parting with it then) About $42 new. $35 from me.
Freeman tweaked: Generations Eb red top, brass body. 36.50 new. $30 from me.
Susato Ab (G# - guess it depends if you are ascending or descending): Alright. I was listening to Whelan’s Jig on Dervish’s album Spirit and decided I HAD to be able to play along with the cd. I thought they were playing on an Ab instrument, and I impulsively ordered it from Susato. Tunable, plastic, black. Virtually brand new because I realized quickly that the Ab didn’t to the trick (my teacher pointed out later that I needed to play on an Eb with different fingering). That’s what you get with WHOA disorder. Anyway, it’s languishing on the shelf. $69.90 (I call that $70) from Susato. Make a reasonable offer.
