I’m clearing out some of the old intermediary collection of instruments to clear the way and make a bit of money for a few more refined instruments. These instruments are still useful for me, but with my financial situation I need to sell to help me to buy.
First up: I’m selling my Susato Low D. Tunable, black, in perfect tune, delightfully easy access to top notes all the way to third octave A! (oxo xxx, and blast it.)
I’ve gotten more compliments on this whistle’s mic’d up sound than I can count. It sounds phenomenal through a mic whether live or in the studio. Has great acoustic volume as well. It is in great condition; it’s only about 2 years old. $60 for this one (they’re about $95 new).
Also, I’m selling a susato Low F, one piece, non-tunable, for $20. I’ll be perfectly transparent: It is well in tune for only one and a half octaves. The top B (6th scale degree, 2nd octave) will be in tune only if you vent the bottom two holes. Great for a starter or intermediary Low whistle to start practicing your pipers grip and breath control. Out of all the susatos I’ve owned I most like how this one responds to tonguing and switches through the octave, very solid. Great sound, mics love it, great volume. I have used this in professional live settings and also in the studio, and it plays and sounds great through a mic for that first 1.5 octaves. If you are an accomplished tweaker you could definitely tweak the second octave into tune. The top 3 holes are way too small. Drill the 5th hole (from the bottom) a bit bigger, and you will be in business.
Next up, a susato mezzo Bb for $15. This works just like it should. Also one piece/non-tunable.
Lastly, I’m also selling susato soprano D and Eb whistles. $10 each. They also work just like they should. One piece, non-tunables.
(They are all non-tunable, but they are all perfectly in concert tune and made of plastic, so their tuning will not be very much affected by temperature.)
I’m also selling a few non-whistle winds, a few flutes/quenas. Check the appropriate boards for those (flute and world winds).
I’ve got an Erik the Flutemaker low D flute (“Irish,” but also somewhat asian/bansuri-like – just an ethnic bamboo flute). This is going for $80. More details in the flute forum posting.
I’ve got two quenas in E major from unmundodebambu.com. These are going for $50 each. They go for $120 each from the maker. More details in the world/folk winds forum posting.
