FS: Marcus Hernon Keyless Blackwood Rudall

I purchased this flute about 6 months ago from a fellow Chiffer. It is a Marcus Hernon Keyless African Blackwood Rudall & Rose model flute. It is in excellent condition with no cracks or scratches. It has a fully lined head with a tuning slide. The sale includes The original box and the numbered plaque from Marcus Hernon. New these are $1368. I am asking $600 including shipping to Continental US for this great flute. (Shipping to other places would incur additional postage costs.)

I am selling it only because I purchased a keyed flute and find that i am not playing any more. It deserves to be played.

You can read more about it here: http://www.marcushernon.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=36&Itemid=56

Thanks for looking.

I just want to say that this is a screaming deal. I played a Marcus Hernon flute for a while and it is really a flute that deserves more attention with an especially sweet second octave. Top notch.
Kurt

Yes, it really sounds good on the videos and sound clips. Great Rudally sound.
Of course the player is extraordinary.

Please don’t take any offense, but can you tell us if this flute has been modified since it left the maker’s hands, and if so what was changed? Not trying to make any waves, but there have been a couple of threads recently regarding flutes modified by other people than those who first made them, and a Hernon flute owned by a Chiffer was mentioned. I’m not arguing the merits of this type of change, just asking whether this particular flute has been adjusted by someone other than the maker (only to be able to more easily assess what condition it is in in). I really don’t need another D flute either (though the price sure is attractive), but am finding that I am starting to prefer a more “Rudalesque” flute and was wondering if this might be a good alternate for my Hawkes pattern Ward.

Thanks

Latticino,

You jogged my memory and I went back to the original post and yes this is the flute you mentioned. I had completely forgotten about that, but I never found anything more other than what the original seller mentioned, which was that he didn’t know what was tweaked by Dave Copley. It was probably some minor repair as there is no obvious modification seen. You could check with Doc Jones and see if he remembers.
Dave is an excellent craftsman and I would trust him with the repair of any flute. More importantly, Doc trusted him and he certainly knows a lot more than I do about flutes and repairs.

BTW: No offense taken. I am sorry that I do not know more about it. I do not wish to hide anything about the flute and if you or anyone has any question ask away. I like the flute a lot, it plays nicely in my beginner hands. It sounds great when my teacher plays it. He thought it was a nice flute and a good buy at this price which is what I paid for it including postage.

Jim and Kurt,

Thanks for the kind words.

This flute is still available!

I was just about to post a “sold” when the buyer changed his mind, so this flute is still available.

Jeff

Let’s try 1 more time
This is a really nice flute for somebody
At a really good price

I’ll bump this one up again for you, Jeff - I have one quite similar to it and it’s a great sounding flute, very comfortable to play… No work from Dave Copley on mine, as far as I know (bought mine used, as well), but from what I know of Dave’s work, he’d not take anything away from it in any case. Lovely flutes, the Hernon Rudalls.

Always amazes me that there are concurrent threads here with folks looking for a good deal on a flute, roughly in this price range, and other threads offering such almost right beside them…

‘Dave is an excellent craftsman and I would trust him with the repair of any flute.’

Emphatically I agree. And he’s conservative and respectful to flutes, too.
Please somebody buy this, before I go nuts.

Jim,

I think you can rest easy. I believe the flute is sold pending receipt of payment.

I know the feeling. I see stuff come up here and I want to buy it so bad. It is always a relief when someone else buys it and I can forget about it.

Jeff

:frowning: If I had the money, I would have snatched it up the first day.

The sale is now complete.

Thank you everyone for your interest.
