FS: Last Call for the Hernon Flute - now spoken for.

I’ve got a Marcus Hernon Grenadilla D flute (fully lined head), for sale or possibly trade. Marcus is currently charging 600 Euro (about $720 U.S.) for his flutes, with a six month waiting list. You can find more info on these flutes, as well as sounds clips and a wonderful video clip of Marcus playing one of his flutes here (click on the “My Flutes” section):

http://www.marcushernon.com/hernon.htm

The flute is in excellent condition, and includes a hardwood case, also made by Mr. Hernon.

I’m open to cash offers or possibly a trade - I’m particularly looking for a Blackwood or Cocus Murray, or perhaps a Lehart, but would also consider trades for other makers flutes, with or without keys - including Cotters, Hamiltons, Olwells, Wilkes, and the like (obviously I’d expect to pay the difference in a trade for a significantly more expensive flute). Anyone out there have a Wylde they want to trade?

I’d also consider trading for a good F or Bb flute.

Send me a pm if you’re interested in making a cash offer on the flute, or feel like doing a little horse trading

Loren

Hmm, no interest, eh? Hard to believe no one has anything interesting to trade, must be the Hernon isn’t so interesting to folks… I’ll even consider interesting flutes in need of repair (no nach Meyers, thanks  )

On the cash side, perhaps I should have listed an asking price, so… $550 plus shipping, anyone?

Loren

Will you say something more about this flute?
I’ve never seen one of these. Is it lined?
Slide? Rudall/Pratten/whatever? What does it
sound like? Bump.

Jim notice he says it is lined in the post. I know that it is also a Rudall as that is what Marcus makes.

I would just love a flute like that, but unfortuinatly, i just spend most of my money on Christmas gifts for other people, and the only other flute I have is a Tipple…oh well, another one will come along when I am more finantially endowed.

Well, I’d be interested, except that I’ve got a flute on order from Terry, and my wife would probably cook me for Christmas instead of a turkey if I bought it. Marcus can really make one sing.

Jim, here’s a link to a video of Marcus playing one of his flutes:

Thanks. So, gang, what do these sound like? I’ve
done some searching and there are some positive
reviews, but more would be welcome. PM me
if you feel hesitant to post here. Curious, as ever. Jim

I thought the Marcus Hernon was a wonderfully powerfull Rudall type flute! It had a very good tone, I just don’t like lined heads.

Here’s a my picture of one:

Good Yule!

Will also consider trades for a good quality acoustic guitar, breedlove mandolin, or certain shop tools… Anyone got a Southbend Metal Lathe or a Bridgeport Milling Machine they wanna get rid of?

Jim, you keep asking what the Hernon flutes sound like, but two of us have already posted the link to a site with sound clips, what gives

Loren

Loren, maybe Jim has already listened to the clips and is looking for a reason NOT to buy it.

Ok, Jim… It’s terrible. Absolutely terrible. So bad, in fact that you should buy it and then give it to me.

Puh-leazzze buy it and give it to me.

Does anyone know what that second part Marcus plays in the video clip is called?

Not a clue, but man, it works well there, doesn’t it?

Wow! Nice flute! Nice playing! Nice view!!!

I know it as “The Ivy Leaf.”

Here’s my version (from a while ago…) on clips-n-snips:

I’d never heard anyone else play it (except the fellow I learnt it from) until I came across the video of Marcus Hernon playing it.

I’m on mostly in the library, where I can’t listen to anything.
Also I find that every flute sounds good in sound clips.
I did just now listen to them–it certainly seems to have
a strong Rudall sound.

Wow! What a great sounding flute! AND did you check the view out that kitchen window? I’ll bet he spends lots of time there - I would.

I noticed the handkerchief on his thigh. Guess he wipes the flute down after playing - or maybe to catch the flow off the end?

Loren’s flute will make a great Christmas present for someone - get your spouses to check out this site and plead a bit, weepy eyes, you know the routine - if you have kids!

BillG

It’s a patch of sunlight from the window on his thigh, not a hanky.

Thanks Bretton. Nice playing and nice whistle too. I love my Burke.

Nah! Disagree. A patch of sunlight would remain still and not bounce with his leg as he moves it. Besides, close up look shows a fold on the top side.

Great fluting at any rate.

BillG

Last call for the Hernon flute, here’s the final price reduction: $475 plus shipping.

PM if interested.

Loren

The flute is spoken for, thanks.
