Just like the title says, I have an M&E polymer Keyless flute for sale, here are the details:
Seems to be an older, no rings, M&E but in good shape, although certainly not “Like New.” The flute has a it’s share of superficial scratches but no deep gouges or anything like that. The slide fully works, but is tight, owing to someone having used a rather viscous slide “grease” of some sort. A little acetone would clean that right off, should the new owner feel so inclined.
The only that that could be called a “flaw” with the flute is that it has a slight curvature towards the player side. It is not noticeable (at least to me) while playing the flute, and it only seems apparent (again, to me) when looking at the flute specifically for straightness. I’d also say one of the socket tenon joints is a wee bit looser in fit than the others, but it’s not loose loose - the joint seals perfectly (no leaks) and the there is no tendency for any of the sections to rotate during play - it’s simply something you might notice when first putting the flute together, if you’re a perfectionist like me.
The flute has smallish holes which I find easy to cover with my smaller than average hands. I think the flute plays well and has a nice tone, and while it has decent volume, it certainly isn’t the most powerful flute out there. Honestly this is why I liked the flute, it’s easy to play at moderate and low volume but still with that nice ITM buzzy tone, or more purely if you so desire. It certainly is loud enough to be played at most sessions.
I think this flute would be best as a player’s late night, and/or knock about practice flute, or a starter’s first inexpensive flute, as it is relatively easy to play, easy to finger, doesn’t require maintenance, and isn’t going to break the bank. It would be good for camping, backpacking, fishing, mountain biking trips, or just toting around town for the random tune here and there.
Price (lowered to) $265., which includes shipping and what I believe is the original vinyl carrying pouch.
Cheers,
Loren
(Edit) To answer the inevitable question that always gets asked: “Why are you selling it?”
A few weeks back I had a rather unfortunate run in with an automobile during my bicycle commute home from work one evening - you can imagine who came out worse in the scuffle. So, now the medical bills are starting to roll in and I do have other expenses to attend to as well, hence the sale of this flute, and perhaps a whistle. I had planned to keep the M&E as it is great for just having around assembled for the quick tune here and there, but the ER doc, and the hand specialist with his fancy, expensive computer enhanced x-rays all want to be paid so the M&E goes.
