Sold: LeHart 6-key Flute

The flute is sold, thanks!
LeHart 6-key blackwood Rudall-style flute, in excellent condition. Recently purchased from Norah Rendell and shipped from Ireland (at great expense, I might add).

This is a wonderful flute. It’s perfectly in tune, with an easy embouchure to blow, but the sound is also very shapeable. It has that wonderful compact, warm Rudall sound, with surprising volume. The holes are relatively large. The keys are in good working order, and are C, Bb, G# long and short F and D#. Keys and rings are made of copper. The head is lined.

Norah has uploaded sound files of her playing this flute at her myspace. Please PM me for that URL, if interested.

This breaks my heart, but I have to sell it because my small hands can’t manage the finger spread. :sniffle:
The flute comes in a hard plastic pistol case, with cutouts in the foam to fit the individual pieces.
Best offer over $1575, shipping included. PM if interested.

Dana

Dana, I’m sorry it doesn’t work! I have issues with that, too.
Which part of the stretch is difficult for you. Is it the left hand
or the right hand reach?

That surely is a beauty. Hope you find one that works for you.

Jennie

The left hand is probably the biggest stretch for me on this flute, or on any flute, for that matter. My 4th fingers are really short. Too bad, it’s just a great instrument.

Dana

I’ve found Bleazey flutes to have a comfortable finger spread(I’m probably going to order a keyed bod when he comes back from his pilgrimage later this year), and Copleys aren’t too bad..I was also told that Byrne flutes are good for smaller hands although I don’t know this for sure… Any other suggestions out there?

My John Gallagher Rudall has a perfect finger-spread for me. He angles the tone holes (if you want him to do so) to bring them even closer.

Also, Olwell’s Rudall style flute has a manageble finger spread.

Jeanie

Thanks for all the suggestions. There is interest in this flute, so it’s looking like a lucky someone will get it. No funds received yet, though.

I do have a John Gallagher keyed Rudall on order. He’s running a bit behind schedule, but I hope to hear something soon. I know from experience that his flutes are very comfortable for small-handed folks.

Dana

Best of luck to you in finding the perfect fit, Dana. I was able to see and try several of John’s flutes this summer, and they are beauties!

Another friend of mine who has troubles with the left hand, specifically, really likes my Casey Burns keyless. She has a CB Rudall, which hurts her hand. But mine is thicker (it could double as a shillelagh!) and because of the reduced angle there, it’s more comfortable for her.

Hope your new flute is just the ticket!
