FS: Joe Kennedy C Chanter & Spot on Queue

Hi,

I’m sadly putting up for sale my Joe Kennedy C Chanter. I bought it directly from Joe a couple of years ago and is in fine working order. It is made of ebony with wood top, brass fittings, and boxwood mounts. Also, it comes with C and F keys and two reeds made by Joe. I asked Joe if the buyer of this chanter could have my place on his queue and he said it was okay. His wait list is about 6 years and he said I’m 1 1/2 to 2 years away. So if your interested in adding to this chanter it can be done relatively quickly in UP time!

Cost: $1650 USD plus shipping. I believe Joe said the cost of his chanters is about $1800 to $2500 (plus the wait).

I can send pics to anyone interested- just pm me or email me at: rlhill1979@yahoo.com

I don’t quite understand - are you:

a) selling a chanter that is already made?..or are you

b) giving the specifications of a chanter that was ordered some time ago and that will be ready shortly?..or

c) selling an existing chanter AND adding in a queue jump as a bonus?

Hi,

Sorry for any confusion but I have the chanter right now, the spot on the que was just an incentive to help sell the chanter. So to answer your question- C on your list.
Cheers!

Steve

Hi,
I will give this one more try at $1550 usd or best offer.

Cheers!

Steve

$1800 to $2500
good Lord!

Hi rgouette,

Just to give you some current perspective:

Seth Gallagher C chanter- $1700
Wood Top- $250
Keys- $125 each
Reed- $160

Totals: $2485 USD in comparison to mine (wood top, 2 keys, extra reed).

Rogge C chanter same configuration - 1433 euro= $2037 USD. Don’t know if he charges extra for wood top.

Got these prices right from their websites.

So… Joe’s chanter prices are right in line with other top makers like himself!!

and what amazing customer service to boot…

But, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for.

I’m not one given to wrangling over pipe makers, so I wont.

But I just felt I had to justify why I was surprised at the cost
of chanters as compared with a fellow who by all rights, has had nothing but praise
heaped upon him by many a piper.

If the market bears the prices fetched, then so be it!
All the better for the makers!

humbly,
Rich

Well, I don’t really want to start wrangling over pipe makers either. But, you did essentially tell potential buyers that they shouldn’t buy this used chanter, but rather should get a Childress chanter.

You won’t read many negative posts online about makers, because no one wants to publicly dismiss a maker, for a variety of reasons. One of them being that a maker likely works very hard for very little money, and another being that opinions about these things are a matter of, well, opinion.

My opinion is that I’d rather spend the extra money to get a chanter that will have the tone and behave the way I want. What I want isn’t necessarily for everyone! (But yes, I am seriously tempted by this chanter.)

A Joe Kennedy B chanter recently sold for only a little less than this and it was keyless. The market is well able to bear these prices for such high quality work. That doesn’t change the fact that Joe still works very hard for very little money though!

Well friend, I think this will be my last post on this particular thread, but in closing,

  1. “But, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for.”

isn’t what I consider a benign statement

  1. I had absolutely NO intention of drawing anyone’s attention off from a chanter no matter how expensive.
    That was the wrong conclusion.

sheesh
I’m done.

That’s true, and that’s why I clarified, hopefully, that it is of course just my opinion.

My point is simply that your post wasn’t benign either, intention notwithstanding.

Maybe this is a good time to remind everyone of our Price Policing policy:

In a word … Don’t. Thanks.
