FS: Tommy Martin C chanter

hello everyone,

due to financial circumstances (like everyone right now), I am offering up my Tommy Martin C chanter. The chanter is in cocobolo, brass, and artificial ivory mounts with a very nice matching wooden reed cap capable of taking a stop key someday. The chanter has no keys but has blocks for keys to be added on later. I am the second owner of the chanter. I bought this chanter last year along with a bag and bellows. In the pictures, you can see the bag and bellows, however they are not for sale.

Now to the important part… The reed was made last summer by the venerable Paddy O’Hare of Belfast as a favor to me. He did a great job coming up with a staple dimension from scratch that works great. BTW, I am including in the sale an extra staple for reed making purposes down the road. The chanter is playing fantastically: easy to play, responsive, and very in tune with the key of C (thanks again Paddy  ). I am attaching a sound file of me playing the chanter just last night. The recording was made on a little Sansa MP3 player so the quality of the sound (and my playing  ) isn’t great, BUT the tone and tuning can be heard well.

I would like $750 US for the chanter with free shipping within the US (International will discuss reduced shipping cost). I know that at the moment the market for selling pipes is tough, but I think this price is fair for a quality chanter with a great playing reed.
Please PM or email me if interested. Thanks.

all the best,

Hi Joe,
Sorry you’ve had to part with the chanter. I’ve had to part with stuff for the similiar reasons in the past so I know it has to be done.

Anyway I wanted to let others know that Joe’s price is very fair because a new C chanter with a wood top from me would be $950.
I don’t want this to seem to be a commercial post, in fact, with my touring schedule, I’m not taking instrument orders at all but when I have something completed and for sale i’ll let you know!
Tommy

I’ve had the pleasure of playing and reeding this chanter. It is a fine instrument and this is a great opportunity for someone to delve into the world of flat piping at a very reasonable price. A real bargain

Cheers

I wanted to post this new sound file. I was able to record it last night with the help of a friend and his pro-tools rig. The sound quality is much better and there is just a bit of reverb put in. My playing however is still not where I want it to be though.
The tenor drone you hear at the end is off of my Neil O’Grady full set. I have my tenor drone set up so that it will play in D but then tune down all the way to C, so I can play along with this chanter. pretty cool.

Thanks for the listen.
