FS: Hunter Chanter- 2 keyed "Simple Chanter"

Hello all,

I am reluctantly putting up for sale a Hunter concert pitch “Simple Chanter”. The chanter is made by Sam Lawrence and is in Palo Santo wood, self mounts and brass. It has two keys fitted- C nat and F nat. You can see at the Hunter website: http://www.hunterpipes.co.uk/Simple.html

I purchased the chanter less than 2 years ago directly from Sam. The chanter is exactly as it was when I bought it. No dents, scratches or dings. Just the normal patina on the brass. It has the great “Hunter” botton D and hard E; easy pressure to play, and good volume along with stellar tone and tuning. It comes with the original reed made by Sam. The reed is honestly one of the best and most durable reeds I’ve ever played. Bar none. The reed has played and excelled in climates ranging from extremely hot to cold, including 75% humidity to 95 degree 15% humidity. The bridal adjusts easily, sliding up and down and has kept this reed playing in all conditions. It would be a great chanter for someone getting into the Uilleann piping or a veteran who is looking for a reasonably priced kick butt chanter.

I hate to sell it, but recently I have been lucky enough to purchase from a friend a Quinn/Khoeler B chanter. Needless to say it is amazing. However, in order to be able to pay it off, I’m having to make some hard sacrifices. I hate to sell it but it must be done.

To buy it from Sam new with the keys today would be around $950 US. I’m asking $850 with free shipping within the US, and discounted International shipping (between $15-$25). Email or PM me. Thanks for looking.

can further keys be added to these chanters?

not interested as a potential buyer, just curious

No. The way that Sam designs them, he only makes the blocks for the Cnat and Fnat in order to save time in the manufacturing process.

To quote Sam from his webpage:
“…I take as much care and time in making them sound great as I do with the other chanters, however I have speeded up the manufacturing process by using non-handrolled metalwork, a metal cap, no mounts for G# or Bb keys, no crown on the swan neck and the mounts are of the same block as the chanter. There are mounts for long F natural and C natural keys, which are the keys mainly used in traditional Irish music.”

Thanks for the question. all the best

I’ve heard this stick, and it’s excellent!

Are you sure the currency you meant was dollars?

A new chanter with a C key by Sam, according to the website is 850 Pounds! That would be more than 1400 dollars, unless that info is not updated

It’s not a regular chanter, it’s a “Simple chanter” so it is designed to be less expensive. From the website, it’s £450 for the chanter without the keys, £60 per key (2x) and £10 for shipping; so total of £580. Checking today’s conversion; £580 = $968 US. So I’m asking $850.

Thanks for helping me clarify.
