france/whistles

Later this month I am going to Paris and

wonder if any whistlers know of whistle shops

or flagolet makers in France.

P.S. I very much enjoy this web-site.

A couple of sources for whistles in
France are “COOP Breizh” on rue du Maine
(Main St.) in Paris. I think it’s Celtic
culture specialty shop. Also “TI AR
SONERIEN” in Concarneau, Brittany. Both
of these places handle a good volume of
our “Susato” brand whistles so I’m sure
they probably are good sources for other
whistles and information as well. By our
sales their must be quite a “whistle”
culture in FRANCE. Don’t know much about
particulars but let us know about your
trip when you return.

There’s a fellow named Jean-Pierre le Meur in France who I’ve heard makes very nice alluminum whistles in D (and maybe G too).

Jean-Pierre Le Meur
62 bd de Menilmontant
75020 Paris France
phone nb: 33-146365433
email: jplemeur@hotmail.com

The address and email are a bit old, so I don’t know if they’re still good.

Jean-Pierre sent me a graphic of his whistle some time ago and they looked very nice, but I never followed up and ordered one. If I remember correctly they were about $100 US.

Goldthorpe,
Last june I was in Paris and I went to a session where a woman was playing a whistle I had never seen before. I asked her the name of the maker and when she answered me I had no idea who she was taking about. Now that I see the name Jean-Pierre le Meur, I am pretty sure it is the name she mentioned.
Her whistle looked a little like an overton. It was tunable and had like a gold engraved ring. It sounded great…Of course, she was an outstanding player and would have sounded great on any whistle.
May be you’ll have a chance to check that session out.
They are all french from bretagne (brittany).
The woman’s name is Marie. she is also a very good singer - she sings in english.
They play every sunday 7pm to 9 +
the place:
Corcoran Irish Pub
28 rue St Andre des Arts
tel: 01-40-46-97-46

Have a great time in Paris

Sibyle
