My Copper Dream from Nick at Ethnic Wind finally arrived. Took a while to get down here, but as you all know from his post a couple of weeks back his little girl has been having a very difficult time, you can’t control what life throws at you.
Well first impressions of this whistle. First thought was wow, this is gorgeous, second thought was: “and I can knock out any music critics with it”. It is a hefty whistle.
I’ve only been playing it a couple of days, and my pipers grip isn’t as good as it could be, but I am really enjoying playing it. IT has a beautiful tone, and a very strong bell note and is very forgiving with breath control. Not so forgiving in the higher octave, it took me some practice to get high B right, but all is good now.
Ethnic Winds service was great, Nick having taken time to answer my emails when he obviously had more important things on his mind, and the honesty of letting me know how long it was going to take to get the whistle to me due to his circumstances was greatly appreciated.
Would I buy another whistle from him? In a heartbeat, in fact I have already started putting a little bit of money aside to buy one his wooden high D’s. Has anyone played one? What did you think?
To Nick:
Beautiful work.
congratulations on you! friend! you can post the sounds or pictures with it!
Let’s share your happiness!!
I got to participate in his whistle tour last fall–the wooden whistle was gorgeous! (I believe it was his Cocobolo Wooden High D) I’m new to whistles, and I hadn’t ever played a wood whistle before. The first thing I noticed was the difference in tone, and the second was the breath control. Took me a while to learn how to hit the notes right, but the effort was well worth it. It sounded amazing, and if I remember correctly it had a breathy sound to it. I’d suggest asking him for the specifics of the sound, as I only played it a few times. I sent that on to the next person with much regret that I didn’t own it myself = )
