Just got a Ceol Pro Tuneable High D whistle from Nick Metcalf and it’s a beauty. I don’t do full blown (no pun intended) whistle reviews, so I’ll just say it looks beautiful, is of substantial build and workmanship, plays in tune, and has good balance between octaves. In sum, I consider this to be one of the really good values out there.
It’s nice to know that new makers are around doing fine work, including Nick Metcalf and Gene Milligan. Not to mention really fine tweakers like Jerry Freeman.
And if I ever move to Australia, no worries mate - Erle and Mitch.
It looks like it has a wider than average window and windway. Does that affect the sound or playing characteristics in any way? What are the breath requirements and tone like? What is the bore size like? Is it a standard .5 I.D. or is it smaller? Just curious!
Does it remind you of an other whistles that you’ve tried in the past? Am I annoying you yet?
Definitely 5.1 d bore and brings to mind my old Alba, except that this one’s tuneable and doesn’t take quite as much air. Now leave me be dude; I’ve got my own problem - trying to find sheet music for the Last of the Mohicans(Daniel Day Lewis version) theme - that last battle scene up the side of the mountain is awesome…
