The chanter looks vaguely like Desy Seery’s earlier work.

Half set in Poland The seller says the chanter is based on a Bayley bore design and the set was reeded by Brian Howard (Howard chanter reed and Eezedrone reeds), but the drones look Pakistani to me.

The listing for the Polish half set above has been taken from my own detailed description when I occasionally sell a set of pipes on Ebay, with some alterations and additions. Lawrence Thomson does not make bags like that, Chris Bayley does not make chanters like that, and no-one admits to making drones like that. Make of it what you will.

Definitely from Pakistan. I’d recognise that drone switch anywhere!!

Can confirm what has been said by Mike and PJ and it is definitely a mildly reworked set of pipes from the east and does to appear to be anything to do with any of the named makers. As PJ says the giant drone switch instantly gives the game away

By coincidence have just received a mailing from the ‘Finland Pipe Company’ but quite why this name has been chosen I do not know unless my atlas is wrong and Siakot has been relocated to Northern Europe

Chris

If you guys don’t stop mentioning the giant drone switch, the makers of these pipes are eventually going to catch on and start making smaller drone switches. Then we wont be able to tell them apart from reputable makers!!!

I’ve never seen a chanter where the key mount goes all the way round either!

Good point - do they read the forums though ?

They’ll have to change more than just the gargantuan drone switch. :poke:

I don’ t see this as any issue. If they change it , it’ s a tiny step forward. If they change more… who knows what will be the future.

Kwisthout half set - UK and Ireland only.

Uilleann Pipe Half Set (Rogge / Ginsberg / Rhadnan)

Not offered by me but here’s a translation:

Uilleann Pipes Half Set, mainstock made by Yadesh Rhadan, chanter by Alan Ginsberg. Drones and chanter reeded and adjusted by Andreas Rogge. The Ginsberg chanter was too loud and yelling. The drones were fine but had a different pressure behaviour, so I invested hundreds of Euros to have the set being made optimized and balanced by Rogge. Now it “sings” over two full octaves. The bottom D likes to gurgle from time to time when the set is played in dry conditions. Rogge helped out by putting a piece of plastic into the chanter bottom. The piece can be taken out with one grip. The highest two noted require some instinctive feeling.

Materials:
Chanter and Drones are made of African Blackwood, the mainstock is made from a different (more red like wood but it is as hard as the other )wood. Nickel ferrules, except for the chanter. Chanter ferrules made from from brass. Imitation ivory mounts. Bellows made from wood and plastic.

Set includes a case for transportation und the “Uilleann Pipes Tutor” by Davy Spillane

Why I want to get rid of the set altough it is ok? Because I’m simply too clumsy with the pipes. Im doing allright with the GHB but with the irish… I simply have too little time to practice to ever being good enough to play it well. So it is better if someone else is having fun playing them.

Because I have extremely long arms, the neck of the bag is a little longer than normal, so it is more confortable for me to play. Players with shorter arms might need to shorten the neck a bit. It is about 2" longer than usual.

Kind regards

Uilleann Pipe Half Set (Rogge / Ginsberg / Rhadnan)

Rhadnan… hmmmmm… well it seems Siakot, Pakistan may be involved here as I spy with my little eye A GIANT DRONE SWITCH (Sorry but it had to be said  )

A few posts back on this very thread someone in Poland using various pipemakers names to try to add authenticity was trying to pass a similar set off so extreme caution should be used if bidding on this set

John

Doesn’t look like a Ginsberg Chanter either…

Daye practice set without chanter

You guys do realize that the drone switch isn’t actually giant, but just installed backwards? The hinge is supposed to be in the back of the plunger, not in front. That’s why they always look like the drones aren’t in the right spots ('cause they’re not.)
