vPipes for sale. From the diatribe in the description, i am taking a guess that it is Royce selling them   US and Canada only.

David

These sets have been relisted.

Wooff narrow bore D half set.

O’Briain half set

The guys seems to have a bit of contempt for his bidders/buyer…and to look at the foliage in the photos one would think they were taken in the summer or spring, presumably in Minnesota where he/they are located. The claim is that the sale was, in part, motivated by excessive Christmas purchases but the photos suggest otherwise…very odd. Let them eat cake, I say.

… and don’t forget the dog that didn’t bark …

Matt Kiernan chanter in D but no reed here

Kiernan chanters are not difficult to reed, provided they haven’t been tampered with.

Many a young Dubliner cut their teeth on just such a chanter.

Bob

I must write that my opinion differs a bit. I also find Kiernan chanters easy to reed. I once had started on a Kiernan practise set. After few weeks over here the inevitable thing happened: The continental climate is drier and central heated air added to it. The reed became too stiff and squeaky. Though in those days (end 70s) absolutely no knowledge about Uilleann Pipe reeds was available, I managed (after many futile trials of course) to make a (working) reed (using the original staple). I reeded several Kiernan Ds since: I found every one to be a “quality” chanter: Quick to reed and performing well. Matt had made many chanters and knew damn well what he was doing. Mind though: Matt Kiernan´s chanters seem to be a bit on the quieter side. Concert pitch all right but in between narrow D and usual CP. I never had any luck with cylindrical staples. The upper second octave definitely is too high with them.

I bought a Matt Kiernan chanter on ebay just over a year ago, at about the price this one is starting on.

I agree with all of the above, they are what they are and they are fine. I needed a chanter to use at times when teaching. Tommy Reck used a chanter of Matt’s when teaching and if it was good enough for him, it would do for me I thought. Matt was also a genuinely helpful and nice man and I thought it would be nice just to have one of his chanters. He was one of those people who dedicated a lot of time to the pipes for the love of them, helping scores of pipers out getting started. never making much, or intending to make much, financially from his efforts.

The reed in it was useless (let’s not go there) and Alan Burton reeded it up without a problem. I might add Alan said he got the best result using a cylindrical staple and it’s not quiet at all! Top B is a bit out on the sharp side but overall you see a lot worse playing chanters from makers keen to fetch four times the price.
