The old thread was so out of date, here is a new one.

D Rowsome copy in blackwood by Colin Ross

Neil O’Grady chanter with 3 keys, but no reed or chanter top - this one appears to be being sold by David Daye, if I am not mistaken. Looks to be a US only auction.

Mystery set. Any guesses?

Hi PJ

The regs and stock look like a Galloway set’s regs and stock, so if they are 20 plus years old, would that not point the finger of blame at Cillian O’Brian, at least for them.

David

Careful, you’ll start a stampede talking about O’Brian!!

The photos are very poor but I don’t see a bass drone slide. Also, the reg keys look to be at very large angles from the regs. The description mentions purple heart and ebony (or possibly ABW) but the regs look like they could be boxwood.

Look slike a D.I.Y. set to me.

Patrick.

Definitely a frankenset Pat.
The thing that had me scratching my head was where I had seen a brass covered stock with Taylor style folded bass reg mount before.

It does not take much of a trial to be executed around here…worse than Texas.

I’d guess the regs look like maple.

Could be maple. Could be boxwood. Could even be pine. But they’re certainly not purpleheart or ebony/abw. The photos don’t allow much by way of identification.

With regards to the 3/4 set, a friend of mine had a roberts set and I remeber the bass drone sound box looking very similar. You can tell its a slow work day in AUS.

Slans,

The mystery set has sold. to one of the forum members maybe?

These pipes were for sale in my town. I contacted the seller to see if I could check them out, and the seller indicated that a local sale was in the works. This is all a bit surprising to me. I am not aware of any other uilleann pipers within at least one hundred miles, and I am certainly not aware of anyone making pipes around here. I am not saying it isnt’ happening, just can’t say that I have ever seen anyone playing pipes out here (we have quite a big festival in the fall that is timed so that we catch the bigger/well known groups/players on their way to Milwaukee). I have never seen a local piper there and no one has ever approached me about playing when I play out. I contacted the seller again to see if he was interested in discussing pipe-making, as I am interested in learning. I haven’t heard anything further. So the mystery set is a real mystery to me.

The 3/4 set on Ebay at the moment is one of Chris Bayley’s sets. It would appear to have the E Regulator key as well as the standard ones. Plus the Stop Key and Popping Valve.

A nice set.
