Davy made his own pipes.
I might be mistaken, but I thought this set
was made by Johnny Burke. Its the only set I’ve ever seen him with. Is there another he has? I know he makes pipes, but have never seen any more than a chanter…
Do his chanters come with reverb built in?

The set he plays was made by himself,Johnny Bourke,and a pipe and flute maker called Michel Bonamy originaly for some competion in Dublin which they won. Steve
As far as I am aware Mr Spillane plays his own made concert D 100’ pipes, he also will have a few other makers sets which he has played on earlier albums, he has a Johny Bourke set as dos Ronan Brown, Johnny Bourkes drones & regs sound very nice & take some beating when they are set up right. all the best.

On the earliest recordings (The Pipers’ Rock) he played a William Rowsome set with a Moss Kennedy chanter. During his time with the Moving Hearts and beyond he played a Denis Crowley set with a Leo Rowsome chanter. This is the set pictured on the Atlantic Bridge album and is now in my possession (without the chanter, which I believe he still plays). Since about 1988 he plays a set of his own make, as far as I know made in Johnny Bourke’s workshop towards the end of his apprenticeship with JB. Since then, I have never seen him with another set than this.
I have a Davy chanter that I picked up a few years ago (used). Unfortunitly, I never had a reed made for it, so I am not sure how it sounds. It looks like it has been around the block and back. It has a setup hole for a mike in the chanter top. Anyone interested in purchasing it, let me know.
