Does anyone know if Davy played a Spillane or a Rowsome on his solo record? (or something else)
So…you don’t think he played that Spillane chanter that you just reeded for me?
I thought Davy played a Crowley set on his first album but I could be wrong. There was some discussion of the set in the photo on the album sleeve being a Crowley.
The set pictured on the album cover is indeed the Denis Crowley set which is now in my possession.
However, the recordings were made with the set he made, AFAIK with a Rowsome chanter.
sorry- i should’ve asked if anyone knew which chanter davy used on his most recent duet record w/kevin glackin…
Davy plays his own concert D pipes now, but he dos have a lovely concert set by the late Johnny Burke, Davy probably has a few sets by other earlier makers, have a look at this, he playing the Johnny burke set it seems with one of his own chanters.

The set he plays in this video is his own set, he made it in Johnny Bourke’s workshop by the end of his apprenticeship with him.
Looks like a JB and maybe a prototype chanter of his own in this shot with a Kennedy chanter top?

PD.
Sorry Patrick… it’s the Crowley set with a Rowsome chanter… but the Kennedy chanter top is correct!
If Davy made the set under Johnny Burkes supervision and in his work shop, and with Johnny Burkes reamers made to his spec, then the chanter and regs must also be to that spec, then lets agree it a copy of a Johnny Burke set.
all the best.
That’s basically what it is - but Johnny Bourke used different designs through his working period. This one was more or less a copy of Davy’s Crowley set… the body anyway, the original chanter has gone lost long ago.
