Read an article in the Sept-Oct edition of Ireland of the Welcomes magazine about “Inspiring Crafts” in Clare. Within it there was a section on Davy Spillane, his playing and pipe making. He stated his concern that his “lifetime of learning and perfecting” making pipes “will be lost if he has no way to pass them on”. “Many inquiries have prompted him to find a solution: He is working on plans for a heritage center” (“keeping with the energy of the renovated Cliffs of Moher visitors’ center”) “where visitors could watch him make and teach apprentices to make the UPs and low whistles. Visitors can ask about the process” (not many sets will be made I would guess!). There is more if you neeed to read about it, but this is the gist of it.
