Yes, Marlene (pronounced: Marlena) Boegli is Dave’s wonderfully real and down to earth wife. She does the silver work. I have visited them for three extended stays, and I adore the whole family!
Seeing as Marlene Boegli does all the silver work, I think it’s most appropriate to credit her when speaking of Copley-Boegli flutes, especially a keyed one. Most posts regarding these flutes only mention the name Copley.
'Tis a nice flute… I played it at a session last Sunday night and a fluter that was playing an Olwell said… “Man… nice sounding flute!” Same comment from a fiddle player friend of mine…
My impressions… Well… It’s just a straight-ahead - great sounding Irish Session Flute. Not too loud but also not too soft. (The Olwells I’ve played are louder from what I could tell.)
Dave has recently moved the F# hole down a bit and made it larger - I guess this would make it a bit louder than my keyless Copley that I had. The low D seems stronger on this one too but that may just be my embouchure getting better… It’s funny… I went through a phase a couple weeks ago where getting the lower register was harder for me than the higher… I attribute this to my more focused embouchure and needing to widen it for the lower notes…
I really feel at home on this flute… It does what I want it to and sounds great… It looks great too! As you can see…
I’m also really enjoying the keys… The low C is tricky but I’m getting it. I really love any chance I get at playing the low C# and Eb keys… They sound amazing! I’ve been working on the Ab major scale this week so that I can play in a piece that a friend of mine wrote… Couldnt’ have done that before!
The E notes are weaker than any of the other notes… This is something that most flutes struggle with… The only flutes that I’ve played that had great Es were some Olwells and David Migoyas Rudall & Rose. But like anything… once you practice and live with the flute it’s amazing what your embouchure can compensate for…
Tuning is spot on… More so than the Olwells that I’ve played.
The holes are just the right size for my hands (medium).
So anyhoo… I’m a happy camper… anything else you wanna know?
Oh… and I should say that the keywork was inspired by William Hall…
By the way… I used Olwell’s flutes only as a comparison as they are our “holy grail”. It’s not like they are out of tune… I’ve noticed his F#s to be slightly flat… Every note on my Copley & Boegli is dead on.
Just to clarify,
Yes, I have two of Dave’s and Marlene’s flutes,
which are perfectly in tune.

Yes, beautiful shadows, and the surface texture (is that a sheet of gray paper? glass with backlighting?) is perfect. The lighting is perfect.
Jessie’s flute on eBay also has pictures that are enough to make a grown man cry (look at the sparkle on the foot keys!).
