Does anyone have a photo of a keyless model? I did see the keyed model in the archives, beautiful! Any comments about his flutes would be appreciated too. Thanks, John.
I wrote a review of my Copley flute shortly after receiving it.

I continue to be delighted with this instrument, and it (or I, or some combination) just keeps getting better. A keyless will, no doubt, be just as good, and you can see a couple photos at Dave’s website.

I have a keyless Copley & Boegli in African Blackwood with sterling silver joint rings & slide, and I’m extremely pleased with it. Plays fantastically and effortlessly, looks wicked.
Great cross-fingering capabilities (Cnat, Bflat, Gsharp), half-holing trickier but the Fnat is quite accessible this way with practice, haven’t managed to get a strong low D# yet, but I think it’s possible. Who needs keys, frankly
Joints are a bit sticky, I’m thinking it’s the extreme humidity in South Africa at the moment - a little work on the cork fixed one of the joints just fine.
Seriously, can’t recommend Dave’s work enough - my playing ability (and enthusiasm) has skyrocketed since the flute arrived two months ago.
I’d post fluteporn if I could but no camera, digital or otherwise
Regards,
Matt
I’ll second Matt’s remarks on the keyless blackwood Copley. I have had mine since late February and I really enjoy playing it. It has a powerful tone, and responds easily/quickly to finger ornaments. I’m going to be getting a keyed body for it sometime in August. It’s hard to wait!

Here’s a not very good picture of mine, plus a Healy and Abell whistles.
And here I was expecting to see pictures of Dave, Marlene, Rosie, and Alan (plus more than a couple of guinea pigs).
I’m sort of dissapointed, hmph.

I had an opportunity to play a keyed flute by another top maker
the other day and was struck by the superiority of Dave and Marlene’s
keywork, which is much more precise and fast. I don’t know
where Dave’s flutes fit in the pantheon, but I’m still
learning to get more out of mine. I have an older keyless
Copley, too, with brass slide,
and I find always myself appreciating it more.
I think these are great flutes.
Can’t find anything bad about Dave’s flutes anywhere, just good. Thanks for the photos, John.

I agree with the opinion of the previous speaker.
Copley’s flutes are fantastic! I can assure thee that you’ll be happy with that for a life-long time. He - and his wife - are very friendly and kind people also. They sent me many years ago a CD with tunes played with their flute free - to Hungary! (It’s an amazing deal of money to send here anything across the Ocean). I was so touched.
