Yep, that’s the DeKeyser alright…sounds nice too…I’d describe it as a slightly brighter or lighter “Hamilton” type sound…probably the lined head… eventually want to swap mine for a fiddle as I’ve replaced it with a Noy (the DeKeyser is on indefinite loan at the moment)

Okay, I’m stumped: What’s so sexy about this flute? I’m not knocking it, I just can’t figure out what it is that is prompting folks to say it’s unusually attractive looking - it’s a black flute with silver rings, same as…well, most other “Irish” style flutes, nothing unusual about it…

Yep Loren… Me thinks that they’re going with the “any flute’s a sexy one” ideology! I agree… It’s just a straight up keyless… I’d reserve sexy for something like a Wilkes with fancy silverwork or somethin’!
The holes on the left hand side are close to the sizes of my Copley left hand… The right side holes are larger… The volume on this one is a notch higher than my copley as well…
You wanna talk about sexy… Dave sent me a picture of my new C foot with interlocking C & C# keys… Mmmmm… He says he’ll be ready to send it to me by Tuesday (one week from today!)… I’m going to wait to post pictures of that until I take them… Thinking about taking them on some sexy slick plexiglass… Now that would be sexy!

This is a very, very interesting flute. I would like to know more about the maker. Is he offering, or at least planning to offer key’s in the future? Does it come with a case or a roll of some sort? Also the lined head is a bit concerning to me (cracking issue). I don’t know about you folks, but I would normaly hesitate to go out and buy a lined head wood flute, without a case, from a maker I don’t know anything about, whatever the price (if it’s above $100 at least). But if someone could answer these questions to my satisfaction I would not doubt a second to buy this flute. It sure looks wonderful, both flute and price.
The one I have has cracked, head and barrel…not throught the emboushure though…still, it was used when I got it and still plays quite nicely (w/ a little tape)…I think if it aged with a bit more humidity it might not have cracked (but thats a problem w/ all lined flutes.)…I was planning to use Terry’s repair method…(remove the liners, glue the pieces, rebore and reassemble)…duck soup if you have access to a metal lathe and probably a permanent repair if the wood has already shrunk. Got a good deal on a Noy in the meantime so I havn’t gotten around to it…etc, etc (and other lame excuses)
About the case… Yes… They come in a gun type case. I keep humidifiers in the cases where the flute stays at about 65-70%.
I ship them with a homemade humidifier (plastic bag with holes in it and a couple ply of wet paper towels folded in a small square.) We will be carrying a full range of passive humidifiers & hygrometers in the next month.
I actually buy the cases at a local shop and don’t charge any extra for them.
As far as the lining goes… For me, it’s a tone thing… I personally prefer the lining. But that’s a debate that can probably be found in the archives.
KEYS… As far as keys go. We will also be stocking a model of his with 6 block mounted keys and all silver fittings (and lining). You can custom order any number of keys through us. You can also request post mounting instead of block.

That sounds GREAT Blayne! Looks like I will have to buy one of those. Still haven’t decided 100% yet. I will sell a go-cart (small race car) sometime in the next few months and I’m looking to buy a flute when I’ve got the money. This looks like a great option. The other “best” options are Hammy (Great reputation, great maker, but a bit of wait and a bit more expensive), Copley (More expensive and some wait, small holed alternative to Hammy), Hernon (Very cheap, great honk, 4 months wait, but no option for retrofit keys or other options so far). But this one seems to have the some good qualities of all these.
