I heared there is some kind of Celtic festival in Boise on the 21st. There was an add on the radio which assured that, though it was being put on by the Scots, any Welshmen like me or Irish folk or even non-Celts were welcome. I think it’s at the botanical gardens in Boise. Anyone else heard anything?
There is indeed. it is on Saturday sept 21st, which is the same day as Lunasa in Salt Lake and the Grand Junction fest in Colorado. I will be in Colorado, so haven’t looked for much info about it. There is a shop in Boise called Wee Bit O’Scotland that has some flyers about it, I bet if you gave them a call you could find out more.
Good to hear from some Boiseans on CF, I thought I was the only one. Anyway, the Highlands festival seems to be focused more on Scots due to the games that are played (Caber toss, hammer toss, etc.) but the music I listened to the last time I was there was phenomenal. In the gardens, a Celtic band played (can’t remember their name) mostly traditional tunes and the woman who sang lead vocals blew me away when she sang Star of the County Down. For anyone in the Northwest this fall, I highly recommend stopping by as the setting and activities will really take you back to times of old.
Hey Nick! You are cordially invited to Boise Irish Session V2.0! It’s on Saturday Sept 28th from 3 to 9 PM. Let me (or clarinetwhistler on the board here) know if you are interested!
And if you ever want to get together and trade tunes let me know!
Hmm…for locals we have Beth (moving in Nov), Paul, Barb, Max (we are still working on corrupting him), Adam, Johnnie. For imports we sometimes get Jon and Steph from Twin Falls and Brian from Salt Lake region. Paul who else do we have?
I also have on my list, for locals, Becky (still wants to make it to one), Matt, Aaron, Mark, George, and Barb (my wife).
As a side note, Beth, we’ve got Barb enjoying the whistle so much that I’m very seriously thinking of going back to my original plan and give her my new Hoover Whitecap (I’m sure she’d let me play it anytime I want her to have a nice, sweet, in-tune whistle to play at sessions along with her Bodhran. And, I suspect the Hoover will be every bit as cool of an instrument, unique in its own way, as my new Sindt which was an anniversary turned birthday gift from Barb. We’ve got another one hooked! Vivo el silbato! (I’ll have to ask Barb if I got that right
