An alternative view of Larry Craig...

After all the jokes, I read this piece a week or so back and wanted to share it. Written by someone who should know…

If the public wants to know who you are before they vote for you, and they later find out you lied and mislead them, then the public will take it out of your hide, Portia not withstanding.

That piece certainly presents an apt and important part of the story, but the main problem I have with people such as Mr. Craig, is that in the last two political administrations, an alarming number of men who prefer to play with men, have spent an alarming amount of effort not just hiding their own sexual identities, but loudly, and with the power of the government, done their best to see to it that those who are open and honest about theirs, suffer, are denied legitimacy and legal standing, and are ostracized. That is what makes these ‘inconvenient’ outings so disturbing… not the fact that the men felt they had to hide (which is part and parcel of what they themselves ensured) but that they actively lied to get others into trouble so that they would not be looked closely at. Very ugly practice, no matter how much you may understand the ‘why’ behind it.

I guess this is where I point everyone to Teh Board, right?

Am I the only one getting “HTTP 404 - File not found” when clicking on TEH BOARD from the main forum page Nano linked?

works for me

It was working for me just a very few moments ago… but I just got the dreaded error message three times in a row

That’s weird. Works for me.

You know, I’ve posted links to the site so many times, turns out I’ve memorised the address without trying. Having lost it on my computer, I just gave it a shot from what I remembered, and c-n-f-p-o-l-i-.-i-n-f-o-r-m-e-.-c-o-m gave me THIS.

Yep. Worked again.

Neat.

Oh, it gets to the front page just fine, but try going in to the boards.

Huh.

Everybody send Congratulations panicked PMs and flood his inbox. :smiling_imp:

Strange, I logged in to send a panicked PM, but now the forum works. When I log out I get a 404 again.

Huh. Logging in works. But I used to be able to read Teh Board without logging in. Strange.

Hmmm… I had to log in as well to get it to work… and now I have access again… wonder if the sign-in just got reset or somesuch? Then again, I didn’t think you had to be a registered member to go there… hmmm…

Now that’s what I call a first rate, expertly done and completely successful thread HJ.

err; I mean “reroute.”

I’m sure soon-to-be-ex-senator Craig will be comforted that the only political ally he has is an ex-governor that was ridden out of town on a rail for the same kind of crap.

I must confess I weary of the “God made me this way and I can’t help it” argument.

God made a lot of alcoholics…should they drink?

God made kleptomaniacs…should they steal?

God made guys with really bad tempers…should they beat their wives?

God made most men with bodies that would like to chase women they aren’t married to…should they be adulterous?

Larry Craig is married. How much “tolerance” would society have for him if he came out and said “All my life I’ve struggled with my sexual urges. I finally decided to stop pretending and be true to my real self and get a hot girlfriend to cheat on my wife with.”

If someone is openly homosexual and wants to run for public office, more power to them.

But, being clandestinely homosexual, cheating on your wife, and opening yourself and our federal government to the threat of extortion and blackmail doesn’t sit too well with Idahoans.

If you had been being badgered for years by a major state newspaper about allegations of being gay would you readily plead guilty to sexual solicitation in a Men’s bathroom? Please! See ya Larry.

Patrick

Incidently, if Larry had come clean when he was first arrested and said…

“This is something I’ve struggled with for years. My wife and I have shed a lot of tears over it but we’re committed to each other. I did a dumb thing in Minneapolis and I’m sorry if I’ve embarrassed my constituents.”

Or if he had said (and meant)…

“I don’t know why the guy in the bathroom was playing footsies with me. I thought it was a joke. I plead not guilty becaus I’m not guilty. If I’m convicted, I hope Idaho will consider my record and allow me to continue representing you.”

Idaho would have given him a pass and sent him back to Washington.

He did neither.

Patrick

Good posts Doc!

It’s the hipocracy that is the problem for me. A little honesty would be nice on occasion from our folks who supposedly represent us in Washington.

Amen!

Doc

And again, Amen!
