locking threads

I used to oppose locking threads.

Now, I do not.

Wisdom comes with age, they say…

Welcome. When you get completely won over, you’ll wanna DELETE threads! Muhwhahahahaha!

But don’t forget you will be an enemy of free speech, according to some, even though, last time I checked, C&F is not a constitutional republic.

Thank you. On another forum I belong to, after threads go to page 20 they get automatically deleted. It’s apparently due to server space or something, and to make the forums faster for people. I’ve never really understood how/why C&F keeps them all forever and ever.

It’s kinda like free stuff.

Haha. You should make a poll. “Do you like deleting threads?”

Now we’re REALLY in agreement as well. I just don’t think our utterances, especially on this secular (non-whistle) thread are so legendary, valuable, important, whatever, that they deserve perpetuity. I feel slightly different about the sacred (whistle) thread just because of certain types of information, links, etc to help people learn to play, buy and fix whistles.

Well. That makes a mockery of the search function, doesn’t it.

Please don’t tell me I’ve never uttered anything legendary on this forum.

You’re beautiful, bubbaluh. Let’s do lunch!

I totally agree again!!

Like Beth (avanutria), I have no moderation power at all, but if these forums were mine, here is what I would do:

  • 1). Delete all the OT posts on the whistle forum or move them to the Pub so that they will be useful. They can’t be revived in any way without disrupting the whistle board or emailing a moderator each time we want to do it to have them moved here first. This is an inconvience, I think.

2). Make it so every page after number 20 (or 15, or 50, whatever) automatically gets deleted. This will allow people to ask new questions (such as “What is the best high C” or “What job do you do?”) that might have changing answers. If somebody asked about high C whistles in June of 2002, it doesn’t mean the answer will be the same in September of 2005, and I don’t think they should be told “use the search function” when they come up with 1,000+ results.

3). Remove the post count totals from under people’s names. I think this leads to a lot of ego-fights among many of us. In my opinion, I think it would be better not to have them there at all.

4). Create a semi-comprehensive sticky whistle FAQ contributed to by many different C&F members. I think that perhaps each person who volunteers for it could be assigned one or two questions, and let Dale approve them.

5). Show less apprehension and hesitation to lock and/or delete threads. This one is a bit self-explanatory.

That’s just what I would do to improve the atmospher of C&F. I’m sure others disagree (they always do).

Speak for yourself, Weeks!! :astonished: I can guarantee that my utterances about shoes and bubble wrap are immensely valuable and are absolutely legendary. I have it under good authority that people flock to the Pub JUST to read my posts concerning those subjects (although don’t ask me to disclose my sources…I’m not a squealer :stuck_out_tongue: )

I find it strange that in just minutes there were over 100 views of this post. Somebody must have REALLY wanted to hear what I had to say. :stuck_out_tongue:

See? There you have it.

Yeah, but by tomorrow they won’t care!!

Oh, don’t bother us with facts, Weeks.

But…but…I’m so close!

Aside from that, you’ve got some interesting ideas, Cran.

M

Actually, I like that idea.

You notice that it’s only you 6000+ posters that approve of such action. Hmmmm…do I smell conspiracy?

No, you smell acute embarrassment. It’s like the storied Scarlet Letter. You’re branded for having a little fun. Okay, more than a little.
