just wondering if there is any chance of a return of it soon (dale and the evil moderators)? there’s a lot of s#$t goin’ down right now that needs a rantin’ !
blandfully yours, tansy
Guys, even though I’ve made some use of it myself, I’m really starting to question the wisdom of even having that forum.
There are so many places on the 'Net where you can go gripe and complain and rant and rave.
There are almost no places that share a sense of true community with all of the self-awareness and self-worth that the term implies.
But there is this board, and there is community here, and the board is aware of itself as an entity, and many of the contributors think about that entity and its appearance and reputation before they post.
What you have here is something that is very rare, any more, in any place of any form factor–but on the 'Net it is just simply unheard-of.
Why, when you finally discover a Rembrant in your attic, would you take it to your garage and store it right under your leaky can of old motor oil?
Maybe it’s seriously time the political forum became a memory.
Just my own thoughts, probably worth less than what you paid to read them.
Dude, oh lord I’m sure you are joking with me here, I mean if you were going to a place where people were often a bit stressed and even unjovial and then you couldn’t go there anymore so you had to hang out only in a place where hostility was quite rare and people were generally quite jovial, well, wouldn’t you expect things to be a bit more jovial?
No opinion being expressed about whether that forum should exist or not
I find I’m missing it less and less. Same people arguing the same points over and over, pulling out all the quotes they could find that agreed with their side, threads degenerating into name calling and real meanness. I vote we don’t resurrect it.
I don’t ever read over there anymore, but I miss it right now because I’m attending a National Protest event next weekend and I want to ask if anybody else is going to be there, and I can’t because the forum’s in limbo…
What I actually meant is that I can’t simply ask outright over here, in its own post, and see how many and which people are going, and I could do that on the other forum…
As crazy as it can get sometimes, the controversial forum DOES have its purpose.
The Chiff is a music based forum in general, with more than enough room for various instruments and their application to matters which are not necessarily to do with Traditional Irish music, but most of the forums have some kind of connection with that kind of stuff.
There are many here among us - Sorry Bob - who play other types of music on various different types of instruments but we are united in our love of playing, not to mention our love of music, no matter how it is defined or described.
Among the regulars here are people of every nationality, race, colour and creed who share a love of playing music. That is why we gather here.
There must be a vast amount of places out there on the 'net where people can argue politics and religion 'till they are blue in the face.
I have never figured the Chiff as one of those places.
There is enough of that endless ongoing stuff in the world today..and tomorrow.
I come here for a break from all of that.
The last thing I want to hear is bickering, name calling and animosity..here…of all places.
We have all, every one of us, signed up for a reason, and it wasn’t politics or the other dreaded subject, religion.
The forum was a very good place to learn about current events with people you have something unique in common with. I don’t think anyone here who has read or participated in it can claim they never learned anything useful there. Many days when I came to that forum I would read about things I might not have otherwise found out. Just as it is with the pubs where Irish music is played anywhere in the world the people playing and listening will talk about current events, including politics, so it’s not exactly out of context with this website.
I don’t miss the lopsided moderation that allowed insults to get so far out of control… but I do miss the forum.
