A Test....

This test only has one question, but it’s a very important one. By giving an honest answer, you will discover where you stand morally. The test features an unlikely, completely fictional situation in which you will have to make a decision. Remember that your answer needs to be honest, yet spontaneous. Please give due consideration to each line…

THE SITUATION: You are in Florida, Miami to be specific. There is chaos all around you caused by a hurricane with severe flooding. This is a flood of biblical proportions. You are a photojournalist working for a major newspaper, and you’re caught in the middle of this epic disaster. The situation is nearly hopeless. You’re trying to shoot career-making photos. There are houses and people swirling around you, some disappearing under the water. Nature is unleashing all of its destructive fury…

THE TEST: Suddenly you see a woman in the water. She is fighting for her life, trying not to be taken down with the debris. You move closer. Somehow the woman looks familiar. You suddenly realize who it is. It’s Hillary Clinton! At the same time you notice that the raging waters are about to take her under forever. You have two options: You can save the life of Hillary Clinton or you can shoot a dramatic Pulitzer Prize winning photo, documenting the death of one of the world’s most powerful women.

THE QUESTION: “Would you select high contrast color film, or would you go with the classic simplicity of black and white?”

I don’t get it.

Cool, I’m signed up!

There’s a good fellow!

Hampshire,
you might have been trying to make commentary about a politician, but I think you made an even stronger statement about yourself
and that was why you made the posting,

as an insight into the true you.

hmmmm …

For a moment there, I thought I was in a pub.

Tsk tsk tsk. No politics in the Pub, HW. You’re going to make me look bad.

Yep.

Given that Hampshire has such a low post count (31 as of this posting) it’s apparent that he is new here, why don’t we cut him a bit of slack…especially since he responded so poositively to Nano’s gentle corrections.

Actually, this is inaccurate, if you are speaking politically. This joke doesn’t even come close to showing the “true” HW. Believe me. I know.

However, if you are speaking about his warped, twisted and rather idiotic sense of humor, you’ve hit it right on the nail

It seemed like a pub was a good place to cut loose and tell some jokes.
For what it’s worth, the real me would have to help poor Hilary no matter how much it would pain me.

You could plug in any other figure in the place of Hilary if it makes you feel better. Actually I think it would be even funnier if it was George W. How’s that for an insight into the “real me”? :boggle:

I didn’t realize that I was being “corrected” by Nano when he gave me the link to the other site but that’s OK, I’m good at being corrected. I have to admit though that I’ve never heard of a pub without jokes (even political ones from time to time) except those politically correct ones where everyone has to pretend they’re having fun while drinking bottled water and not smoking…

Anyway…what do you say I buy a round of bottle waters for everyone and we all cool down a bit…

Sorry, HW, I was off at another site, and I’m afraid the Wet Blanket Brigade got to your post before I could. Obviously, one must use colour in these cases, but your example doesn’t really set the whole scene, does it? I mean, what is the lighting like? Would I need a filter? Would there be any real monetary value in capturing …'s last words on tape?

Here’s a far more telling question: As … went down for the last time and you snapped that Pulitzer winning photo, would you blow … a kiss or a raspberry?

Hi Hampshire,

It’s less a matter of political correctness than personal courtesy. We’re all guests at this party and mostly try to treat each other with respect and kindness and good humor. What’s funny to one of us is insulting to another…religion and partisan politics especially. While my opinion of ALL politicians is that they rank right up there with used car salesmen, divorce attorneys and the majority of the media, I refrain from naming anyone in particular to avoid unintentially provoking any of my fellow guests.

Hence Nano’s post which I interpreted as a gentle suggestion that this wasn’t the place for your post–along with a link to a place where it would be perfectly acceptable. Kinda like reserving the off-color jokes at a family reunion for a room of the house that the kids and Great-Aunt Ada aren’t likely to stumble into.

The problem today is that the media promotes an insulting and argumentative in-your-face kind of behavior where everyone says what they bloody well please—especially if it offends someone. Makes for good ratings.

Unfortunately, it spills over into the real world. People say offensive and insulting things without a shred of common courtesy, and a simple discussion degrades into a screaming match in which all parties scream their point of view while refusing to even hear the other person out. On a forum such as this where we have no way to hear the other persons’ tone of voice and tell HOW they mean what they say–(are they beng spiteful or simply kidding around?)–it’s very easy to misunderstand and things can get ugly fast.

I was on another forum during the last election…that forum is very loosely moderated and things got very nasty. A number of regular posters left and never returned, a few were so PO’d at each other that it’s only now that they can post on the same thread without a few harsh words being tossed around. Partisan politics had to be banned. Period.

Haven’t seen such ugliness here…thanks to moderators stepping in and bringing certain discussions to a halt when they feel it necessary.

Well, I’m forever naive, I didn’t know there was an alternative poli board around here!

Where have I been ???

M :sunglasses:

Also we have a tradition of keeping partisan politics out
of the pub. It goes on the poli board. This is now
somewhat offshore but it’s there. One of the reasons
the poli board was created was so that we wouldn’t
get into political wrangles here.

This may not make much sense, I appreciate,
but if you’d been through what we have here,
it probably would.

As to your question, I’d save Hillary.
She’s a human being, after all. Second,
she’s likely to run for pres and
she’s probably the only serious Dem contender
who can be beat.

I plan to send in my absentee ballot from Lapland.

oops, couldn’t help but get a little political dig in there yourself huh? …and still clueless even after the travesty of the last 6 plus years as well.

Make that the Antartic.
