Wooden Flute Obsession CDs

Which do you like better, the original of Drowsie Maggie on Matt Molloy’s Heathery Breeze CD, or the noise reduction on WFO?

Good question. It’s been a while since I’ve listened to Heathery Breeze, and to be honest I didn’t notice anything different when I heard the WFO version. I’ll give them a side-by-side listen ASAP.

Heard you both times. She was originally going to participate in WFO 1, but some communication on my part went terribly, terribly wrong, and she chose not to provide a track for that project. It may have been she felt I just had absolutely no credibility towards completing that project. I will contact her again after the reviews of WFO are out and see if there’s any interest this time. I had sent her a copy for her help in reaching Jean-Michel Veillon and mention her in the acknowledgements for her encouragement at our meeting in Los Angeles.

You could send her an email at emayock@eircom.net (according to her website) and pave the way for me, please. Thanks.

For all European fluters who still haven’t bought the excellent WFO cd: I received excellent service through CIC in Ireland, who now stock the CD’s. Received them within a few days from ordering.

Various updates:

  1. Only 25 copies of the first volume (2 CDs) of the flute compilation “Wooden Flute Obsession” are available from the ITMS website ( http://www.worldtrad.org). I will remove payment instructions when it is actually out-of-print. Copies may still be available through Amazon.com and the dealers listed at http://www.worldtrad.org/WFO_CD_dealers.htm . I am not yet sure when I may re-press, but I hope not to be out of stock for too long.

  2. A second 2-CD volume is in the works, with tentative artist & track list at http://www.worldtrad.org/WFO2_CD2.htm . Submissions are already being received for a third volume.

  3. Would any dealers please let me know privately what distributors you purchase from so I can try to make access more convenient and profitable for you?

Thanks,

Kevin Krell

Great album! I love Gary Shannon’s playing need to get his album! June ni Chormaic is a new player to me but her playing is flawless - other worldly - does she have any solo albums in the works?

For the WFO2 I recommend Conal O’Grada, he’s working on a new album so maybe you could get one of those tracks.

Nothing I know of for June ni Chromaic. Maybe the New Zealand players know something, since she was teaching at their summer school last month.

Conal was originally unable to participate on WFO1 due to 2 labels not willing to license a track, despite his permission. Right now, I believe Conal is focussed on his next CD and the Scoiltrad lessons, and may not view WFO2 as a useful promotional opportunity. If you’d like to lobby him for WFO3, go ahead. I only wish to use tracks with the consent of the artists, and if it is beneficial to them and flute-playing.

June and Michael Rooney have a duet CD out called Draiocht".

Latest review of the first volume of “Wooden FLute Obsession” appears in the latest issue of the U.S. folk magazine Dirty Linen, #107 page 85. Nice pictures of Cathal McConnell & Matt Molloy.

“Wooden Flute Obsession” volume 1 (discs 1 & 2) are SOLD OUT! Thanks to everyone who has supported this CD project. There may be a few copies not yet sold through by the dealers (sold out at Amazon.com). I do intend to re-press at some point, and am trying to work out Irish & European distribution for more convenient purchase. Look for the second volume (discs 3 & 4): “Wooden Flute Obsession 2” ( http://www.worldtrad.org/WFO2_CD2.htm for some sound samples ) in early 2004.

I picked up my copy of Wooden Flute Obsession a couple of weeks ago at the Spruce Tree Music store in Madison, Wisconsin. I’ve listened to it constantly since then. It’s everything I’ve been led to believe it would like from the reviews here on the Flute Forum. I can hardly wait for the next volume to be released. Outstanding…don’t know why it took me so long to get my copy.

thanks for the hard work…obviously a labor of love.

The “Wooden Flute Obsession” 2-CD set (volume 1), has been re-issued and is now available again. Order information is at the ITMS website at http://www.worldtrad.org (main page), and directly at http://www.worldtrad.org/WFO_CD.htm . Stock may take a few weeks to be available again through Amazon.com and other shops on the Dealers page ( http://www.worldtrad.org/WFO_CD_dealers.htm ).

Sincerely,

Well, this should be an interesting experiment: A recording session starting in 1.5 hours with, hopefully, flute players Peter Horan, Harry McGowan, Gregory Daly, Mick Loftus, Thomas Bernard Ryan, Joe & Damien Stenson, and Michael Hurley. Them in Ireland, me here in Los Angeles. Sure wish I could be there, but sometimes community projects like this depend on leaving the experts alone to do what they do best. Wish us luck.

Good Luck Kevin!
I just ordered my copy of the WFO cd. Don’t know why I haven’t done so before. Or maby I do know, first there was this M&E R&R flute  $470 or something like that. Then there was this Yamaha Böhm Flute $600+. But the last was completely nessesary, I need it for educational purposes. I DON’T HAVE A TEACHER ON WOODEN FLUTES!!! I have to play the böhm as my individual instrument in music collage. But anyway. Looking forward to recive the cd now.

Cheers

hi kkrell,

I love the tone of a flute but the problem is that I cannot play them…so according to the pop psychology my humble collection of low D’s are the “instrumentalities”.

Anyway, listened to the clips and was about to place an order.
Wait.

PayPal :moreevil:

I don’t even remember whether I got a reply from them PayPal folks after half a dozen of enquiries regarding invalidity of my card. Why won’t they allow me? The reason is obvious; I’m a rebel.

So, kkrell, I’m really, really sorry but I’ll be placing my order from other shops…I ask for your forgiveness. I do not mean offence nor am being ironic, and the fact that you chose PayPal as a means of transaction has absolutely nothing to do with my grudge against PayPal. I just can’t seem to get along with PayPal.
