I’m building up a collection of flute CD’s that I really like, but I have to say, there is none better to me than the WFO CD’s.
Every time I put one of these discs in my player, I hear each and every tune with a fresh ear ~ I have new favorites each time I listen.
Right now, I am completely enthralled with the Marcus O’Murchu track on WFO 1.
And of course, Colm O’Donnell’s Battering Ram is and always will be, one of my favorites!
These CD’s surely make my drive in to work a pleasant one, despite the traffic!
I got WFO2 for Christmas, and I think, overall, I like this set even better than the first…more pure drop playing, and I really like the unaccompanied tracks. (And then there’s the Desi Wilkinson track…)
think good healing thoughts for Kevin, if i’m not mistaken he’s having some major surgery right now, according to a post he made yesterday to the IRTRAD and woodie-l lists. i hope he won’t mind my saying this here.
here’s hoping you’re on the mend soon, Kevin! my prayers are going out to you now.
I read this too on the the IRTRAD list and got the impression that he had informed this list too but I can’t find it anywhere. Anyway , all the best to you Kevin , we all owe you a huge thanks for the efforts you put in to the WFO CDs. Please get in touch as soon as you feel well enough.
I’m home now - hospitals are horrible places (and especially catheters). Everyone -drink plenty of water!! The good news is that the surgery went very well, as well as very long. Apparently this stone was like concrete. However, the surgeon was confident it was all out, and I get to skip the 2nd look hospitalization and surgery. I just have to go to his office next Wednesday to get the drain tube removed.
Right now, I can’t do a heck of a lot, since I’ve had a hole punched into my kidney, and it’s not too comfortable. Plus, I have to wear this bag strapped to my leg for drainage. Can’t bend, don’t know whether to sit, stand, lie down, etc.
So, recovery is in progress.
Note that the WORLDTRAD.ORG site and my email may be off-line for a little while. I can be reached with a Private Message on this board, or via KKRELL@ YAHOO.COM in the meantime. It turns out my domain registration expired the day of my surgery, and I had never received the renewal notices. Renewal is in progress, and I should still get everything once it’s re-activated. So no WFO orders being processed right now, but I couldn’t make it to the Post Office to send out the international orders anyway. I suppose my residential mailman could take out any domestic orders, but nothing until the WORLDTRAD site it functioning again.
Yes, Kevin; Heal well, and quickly! Then bring us some more great music on #3! I can’t tell you how much I’ve enjoyed your WFO cds since a freind gave me the first one last month, then I got the 2nd one for Christmas. No better collection of Irish flute tunes to be had! I especially enjoy hearing the differernt styles and tonal differences people achieve with their flutes.
I still stand by my favorite-Loretto Reid’s ‘Leon’s Waltz’, track #14 on WFO 1’s first cd, just amazing tone, technique and composition! But, I am finding many more I enjoy listening to, like Michael McGoldrick’s ‘Terry Teehans/Her Long Black Hair’, #4 on the same cd, that’s playing now, great tune!
Thank you for your efforts in bringing us all the wonderful music!
Good Thoughts for your speedy recovery-listen to your favorite music as much as you can!
The “Wooden Flute Obsession” volumes have received the 2005 LiveIreland.com (and Irish American News) award for INSTRUMENTAL COMPENDIUM ALBUM OF THE YEAR
That is a great tune, Mary, and amazingly played too! My favorite on that one is #11 Desi Wilkinson’s ‘Lagan Love’. I will probably order Desi’s cd because of that soon!
On WFO (first edition) I just “discovered” Marcus O Murchu #3(disc 1) and Josie Mc Dermott #11(disc 1). Great playing on both, and I’m not usually one for the faster tunes! You’re right, there is always something new to hear and become a favorite, or at least hear it like you never did before. These are my favorite cds to listen to-so much variety.
Thanks again Kevin, and many thanks to my friend Clara who introduced me to them, with a gift of the first WFO. The gift that truly keeps on giving!
