I figure I’ll stop between Knoxville and Dandridge on I-40.
Is anyone here familiar with the area? I will need a motel but want to make sure I find a decent part of town.
I’m looking at the Motel 8 in Dandridge at the moment.
I just looked at a map to see exactly where Dandridge is and I’m thinkin’ there’s several places along 40 before it splits south and 81 heads on up my way north. I do know there is a huge Bass Pro at the intersection of 40 and where 411 heads south to Pigeon Forge, Dollywood, Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains. I’d think there would be some through there. I just don’t remember because it’s a day trip for us. Once you get out of Knoxville, it’s pretty rural so I don’t think you’d have to worry about a “good part of town” through there.
My husband did say that they’ve been talking on tv that there is a lot of major road construction in Knoxville and telling people they might have detours. I’d suggest you check your route. Heck when you get to Knoxville you are awful close to the end of your trip.
Isn’t Rulsley in Knoxville? Maybe you’d want to pm/email him and ask for more specifics.
I live about 40 miles west of knoxville, but work and attend church there, too. I have also lived in Jefferson City which is in the neck of the woods you are talking about. I’m not familiar with the motel mentioned, but that’s a nice area overall. just stay away from the east end of Knoxville, past downtown and you’ll be in good shape.
I-40 is closed at downtown for a year or so, so you will be directed to loop around town on I-640, and re-join 40 on the east side of town - just be sure and watch the signs, or it could get a bit cornfusing! I hope this helps.
