Well, you are going to be down in my neck of the woods so let’s see-
There are two MUST See places-
The Hiltons, where you’ll go to The Carter Fold- so you will want to plan to be there on Saturday evening. The Carter Family stronghold- I need say no more.
The other is the Ralph Stanley museum in Clintwood- need say no more 'bout that either.
I’d think that any music making that you attend will be good- warn hubby that it won’t all be bluegrass- lots of old time.
Abingdon has many B&B but I’ll warn you they are expensive. The historic district is very nice and there are lots of antique shops and odd little stores.
I’m of no use on where to stay since I live in sw VA.
Abingdon has a must see also- The Barter Theater-state theater of VA is in Abingdon and will give you a break from the Crooked Road . The productions are outstanding.
I’ll have to check with some friends to see if I’ve forgotten something or somewhere you should not miss.
Thankyou cowtime
Is the Hiltons the name of the place?
I think hubby will like old time too. It’s pretty similar isn’t it. What do I know???
and I know he wants to see Wayne Hendersons place. Do we need an appointment do you suppose?
Any whistle makers around there?
Theres the down hill bike ride somewhere isn’t there?
any other usefull suggestions more than welcome
Cheers
P
Hiltons is the name of the “town” where The Carter Fold is located.
Not similar to me, don’t know about other folks. I always say the difference is that folks are wowed watching/listening to bluegrass being performed- folks have to get up and dance when listening to old time.
I would try to contact and arrange a time at Wayne Henderson’s place- if you want to see him.I’ve never been there, but he performs a bit and might not be there if you just drop by.
There are a number of bike routes around here but I’m no help with that.
I’ll ask some folks I know re other spots you might want to visit.
