Whistle Key question

ON Cherish the Ladies, ‘Threads of Time’ album, track 7, the Battle of Aughrim/The Star above the Garter, what key whistle is Joannie playing? I feel certain it’s not high D, but I don’t own anything else so I cannot tell.

My first guess is about a B flat, but I don’t know.

I don’t have a whistle handy, nor the CD, but off the top of my head I think it was a C whistle, or maybe a G. Give those a try and see which one works.
Best,
Chris

Ya know, I was just thinking to myself, I’m still at work so I can’t check, but I think the confusing thing about that set is that the first tune uses one whistle and the other tune uses a different whistle. I think the first was D and the second was C, though I could be quite wrong.

Have you tried asking Joanne
I found this link on their site.

It’s times like these when those of us with serious WhOA feel really lucky. There’s a piece on the second Deanta album on which Deirdre Havlin plays a B whistle (not Bb). It can’t be played on an E whistle either. Fortunately, I have a B whistle.

PS – Anyone know what kind of B whistle Deirdre plays? There aren’t very many of them, and it certainly doesn’t sound like my Burke. Which would leave Overton (doesn’t sound like that either) or maybe a very sharp Gen Bb or a flat C?

Chas,
Which album and which song?

Ooooo, I feel funny about emailng her but if it’s o the site…

Thanks for the tip.

Joannie will write back. She’s really nice! It might take a while, since she’s on the road so much, but she will respond eventually and kindly.
Best,
Chris

She replied

Hello John,

Thanks and glad you’re enjoying the Cherish cd’s!

I play a Bb whistle on that tune. Good luck and Merry Christmas!

Way cool.

Doh. I was wrong the first time, wrong the second time. Wrong every time
Serves me right for taking a guess at a track I haven’t listened to for at least a year.
My apologies…
Chris

Yeah but you were right to have me write her.

BTW, B flat was my guess.
