It seems to me that this board is not fulfilling it’s potential. What I think would be helpful is to have an arena in which we could post actual tunes that we are playing. Perhaps we could get feedback and so on. Sort of like the tin whistle section of this site.
We could talk about ornementation and tone by listening to tunes played solo on the flute. What do people think?
This would be great for me, I’m trying to pick up glottal stops and don’t really know if I’m doing it correctly.
I could bother the guys at the local session, but it would be much more fun to bother the entire planet.
I’m also considering the Scoiltrad lessons, this would be a nice complement to them.
A few things…
Another forum or use this one? If this one, I suggest using a consistent topic naming scheme so folks who aren’t interested can skip over them.
mp3 or ogg would be the best bet for format. Ogg probably isn’t quite popular enough just yet, so mp3 edges it out. I’d say follow the clips and snips guidlines for file length and size.
As far as I know there’s no way to upload files to the chiff server (except for the avatar images), and I wouldn’t want to load their servers anyway. That’s not a problem for me as I have my own site and could host my files there. Other folks may have to setup a geocities site, which is free but doesn’t allow direct linking of files.
Hmmm, I’m sure I could think of more suggestions if I only had more caffeine…
I thought the clips n snips forum was used for uploading tunes. Has it been discontinued or modified?
There were mostly whistle tunes, but several nice ones by fluters. If folks on this forum got started uploading tunes,it would be an excellent way to compare yourself with others, and pick up hints and suggestions.
Ronbos right about Clips & Snips. I uploaded a tune when I’d had my Dixon for only about a week, posted here that I’d done that, and I received a lot of useful feedback. I’ve also gone back & listened to my clip and can tell where I’ve improved since then. I’ll probably post after I’ve worked my way through Timber - The Flute Tutor.
