What Kind of Whistle Does Joanie Madden Play?

Specifically, on the album “Song of the Irish Whistle” on #6 tune (Women of Ireland)… what kind of whistle is she using? I love the sound and I would like to know is this a glorious cheapie (and which one) – or a wonderfully-made expensive whistle? Thanks for the info.

She Played an O’Riordan ‘Traveller’ series aluminum whistle for the bulk of that album. Pat isn’t taking any more current orders so far as I know, as his backlog was approaching four years when i got mine a year and a half back now. You may want to give him a call though…his contact info is listed under the expensive whistles section of the main site.

Brian has answered about the album. I’ve seen Joanie Madden play six times now in concert an have never seen her play any whistle other than O’Riordans. And to answer the second part of your question - they’re “a wonderfully-made expensive whistle.”

In all honesty, most of Pat’s whistles aren’t really all that expensive when compared to most of what’s out there these days. I think his Traveller series runs something like $70-$80 bucks a whistle or something like that. The hardest time you’ll have of course is finding one. Again, give Pat a call - he doesn’t have a website but you’ll be thankfull you did. He’s got to be one of the nicest people on the face of the planet bar none! There may be a light at the end of his waiting list tunnel…but I don’t know myself anymore. I do know his books have been closed for over a year now so with luck there will have been some amount of catch up in that time.

Cool, Brian, I’ll have a check in the mail to you this morning! And thank you ever so much!

What’s that great line from the NRA (or was it just Clint Eastwood…I don’t remember)?

“You can have my whistles when you pry them from my cold dead fingers!”

Or was that Bill Clinton…I just don’t recall… he he he

Joanie also plays some Burkes and speaks highly of them
