Joanie Madden's low whistle(s) et al

Isn’t it great that there is a Joanie Madden. Does anyone know what low whistles she uses on “Song of the Irish Whistle”. Well high whistles also. Thank you Ladies and Gentlemen. Best, Cyril.

Joanie is an American Goddess.

I don’t have that album, but on “A Whistle On The Wind,” she plays Thin Weasels, and Copeland Lows.

If you read the liner notes on the CD it states that Joanie plays O’Riordan whistles. Simple enough, eh!

I spent the last week of July in Joanie’s whistle class at Augusta. It was a good week. I had a great time and met many fine folk and learned many new tunes. Joanie played a well loved O’Riordan all week. The last day of class Joanie did bring her whistle bag to class, yes, the famous one made by anniemcu. It held a mix of O’Riordans and Burkes as well as one Grinter (which was brand new, I believe) and a Kerry Pro low D (as I can recall).

I should also mention that Joanie can make most any whistle sound fabulous. It’s her way with the whistle, really. She even played a whistle that I made and played throughout the workshop and it sounded better than I could have imagined. Yes, I recorded that one. While I think that a good whistle helps, It’s knowing how to play that seems to matter most. Joanie is a fine player and she’s about as warm and as bright as the sun as well.

i know for a fact that she plays soprano O’Riordan, she might play a tenor one as well.

Joannie is always asking me to marry her -but i have keep telling her, " keep cool babay, i am a discontinued item ---------you missed the train momma"---------

Joanie is a remarkable person and musician.

I believe that she usually plays O’riordans and Burkes.

You’re right about Joanie making any whistle sound good. I think she could make music on a paper towel tube. Joanie is one of the great virtuosos of our generation.

I love Joanie Madden. Well, we all do of course. But for me it’s different. I love Joanie Madden.

it would be cool to have a wife with her abilities-wow the tricks you could learn

Joanie Madden is for me the best of the best. She plays the whistle with amazing soul and musicality.
It’s listening her playing “womens of ireland” which really gave me the desire to play myself.
So thank you so much Joanie !

I have a bunch (D/C, Bflat/A, G, Low D) of O’Riordan Travelers, including the 3-piece Low D. That model (bottom joint has one hole which can be moved to conform to placement preference) was, I believe, originally made by Pat to Joannie’s specification. Her music makes me happy.

I, too, was lucky enough to take classes from Joanie at Augusta this year. She really is a wonderful person…being around her for a week was the greatest fun imaginable!

I think I have a pic of that very moment! I could post it if you wouldn’t mind…

Thanks for the helpful hint. I guess that would answer my question if I had the CD. That’s simple enough. Cheers, Cyril

Having been around Joanie a few times, I am sure she would crack a few jokes about that line!

Good one.

Sorry, CranberryDog, I wasn’t trying to be cheeky or anything. I just thought it was manditory around here to own everything Joanie has ever recorded - LOL.

Steffi, Ah Surely! I would not mind at all. I’d like to see it in any case, thanks. None of my pictures from Augusta turned out well - new digital SLR with no time to read the manual. Everything taken indoors looks like a bad Impressionist painting. It was a good week though wasn’t it? Great bunch of whistlers!

Feadoggie, Just pulling your leg. Cheers, Cyril. >

Here they are, Feadoggie!
It’s too bad that none of your pics turned out…I plan on posting some of mine pretty soon on the Augusta thread.

It Surely was a good week though- I can’t wait till’ next year!

Steffi, thanks a bunch for the picture. I look a tad star-struck, I think.

I may not get back next year but I see you will - congratulations on the raffle. That is so neat!

You’re welcome, and thanks!

I should mention that there are a couple other Chiffers in the second pic too. That’s AZW on the left (looking dapper in the hat) and Squeezbox99 on the right (next to the Priority Mail box of Burkes)- hope I am not blowing anyone’s cover. Thanks again Steffi.
