The way I’ve thought about this for some time (daughter studied archeology) is that once folks started eating marrow out of bones they likely tried various exercises of blowing and sucking to get all the nutritious stuff out of the bone. Somewhere along the line one enterprising fellow got a pleasant sound out of that activity. They were a success around the camp fire. Suddenly, all the girls wanted to know him too. He was a one note wonder! So how do you follow a hit like that? Make a few more holes and toot away? What do you think?

Before I bid, how “chiffy” is the sound? I would like there to be a nice, warm tone with just enough chiff and have a clear, strong, bell note.

No, I think his name was Atouk. He doubled on the drums too. We are fortunate to have video of his playing- with a little help from his friends.
I’m with ya Feadoggie. Mutepointe, sorry, it’s actually quite pure and bright in tone, with a rather sharp (i.e., no intermittent chirps) clean attack on the notes; the upper register is sweet, a bit like the marrow…

I’ve been accused here, and more than once, of being a metrosexual (if you saw my buzzcut, my ubiquitous ratty leather jacket, plaid flannel, nondescript Levis, my increasingly in-need-of-a-gym aspect, my indifferent schedule with the razor, and the evidence that I couldn’t possibly give a crap about my shoes, you’d know this is false), but this is the first time I’ve been called a fanboy. Also false, because I am in fact impartial in this, as is befitting. But you do almost make me feel giddily young again. Flatterer.

Well I, for one, certainly wouldn’t bid on it - let alone buy it. The maker is unknown, and there are no YouTube videos of anyone playing it.
