A 35,000-year-old flute made from a woolly mammoth’s ivory tusk has been unearthed in a German cave by archaeologists, the University of Tuebingen said on Friday.
Eddie, despite rumors to the contrary, I’m not that old…I won’t be putting it up after all…
…can’t wait to model it from pictures though…I’m told it is in small pieces and needs to be reassembled
Has anyone ever made a flute out of a Narwhal tusk? It’s straight already, straighter than a woolly mammoth tusk. Like a unicorn’s horn. And conical too. Half the work already done for you. Jon C, I challenge you…
So must have been another Jack I know making Woolly Flutes.
(Sounds like a good band name)
I’d be interested to hear more details. How many holes, frequencies of the notes, etc, did australopithecus have rhythm?
35,000 years ago the flute was invented. One hour later a drunken cave man screamed out a request for “Danny Boy”.
A challenge!
Actually, I have already looked into it… But being a vegitarian for 25 years I have trouble carving up bones. (But Andrews Ivory Monzani is carved nicely!)
Jon
All the narwauls I associate with have spiral tusks.
Perhaps the London Narwauls are a different family.
These specimans are from some of Andrews accosiates…
narwauls are an endangered species (like flute players), and so the price of the tusk is a little steep for my budget!

You’re wrong on that one Eddie,…checked with Bev…It was my mother-in-law !
