Shwmae!
Are you guys (and gals) still out there? Welsh trad is still alive and well in West wales anyway! Anyone still interested in meeting up sometime in the spring? A day trip or a weekend? Somewhere everyone can get to (hee hee look at our last thread!!) But not till our cold snowy weather has passed - brrr - I’m gonna cuddle the Rayburn!
Hope to meet some of you this year anyway!!

Still waiting for the snow promised by the Met’ Office!
Sounds like fun. Can the English come too?
Brian
As far as I am concerned, anybody can come - as long as yer play summat whistlely.
Race, religion, country of origin, country of residence, make of whistle, etc all irrelevent ![]()

Ooooooooooh I wonder who that could have been!
Uhm…when you say ‘play’…
… does that include enthusiasm or is talent also a requirement? ![]()

Nah! Don’t be daft, there’d be nobody there ![]()
Hi Gary
I reckon enthusiasm will do fine - much more fun than talent ( I only know a few tunes myself but its good coz they’re Welsh!)

Yeah, we didn’t get it either. Probably won’t get much here - b****y brass monkeys though!
I wonder if any other Welshies will repsond this time…

Shwmae EDF, Cariad et al. Pretty icey this morning and a scattering on the hills. Hoping it won’t snow before all that ice thaws out as the children are all at school (in three places)…
As I have listened and continue to listen (four months allready…sigh) to the builders thudding and crashing and sawing and hammering to make us a house, I have given some thought to all this, but everything is so slooooooooooow. LATE Spring, the offer is still open to have it here (indoor camping overnight could be included to make a weekend of it). We might even have windows
, or at the moment more like
.
Gary sounds like a “normal” sort of chap by whistling standards, so should fit in well! Mega treks to the bottom left of Wales are out for me. If we expand the thread title to include those left of Offa’s Dyke then we ought to move the venue leftish as well (highly biased of course).
In the meantime, should we compile a starter tune list of some sort to give us some common ground ..assembled secretly of course using the PM system so the ITMists don’t find out that we play loads of Welsh, English, and World Folk in these parts
.
trisha, on a hillside in Montgomeryshire, Mid Wales, easternmost point looking west into England.
…strange but true.

Woohoo! I’m “normal”! At last! ![]()

Not to mention the theme from Captain Pugwash, which I was aghast to learn has been claimed by the Scottish!
The tune list is a great idea ![]()
Re the tune list…
I’ve started an online thingy where you can enter stuff… I’ve started the ball rolling with my lamentably small repertoire (ooh I sounded like an artist then!). I’ll PM you all the URL if you like…

Yes please, well I’m across the pond so can’t attend (snowed in too) but
love to see it.
Also remember the batch of tunes from Ceri the Mathos - they are online

ooooh yes please! - thingy is about my level with computers!!!

When we know if, when and where we might meet I’ll ask Ceri if he wants to come along for all or some of the time (depending what comittments he has of course). I’m still learning tunes and having welsh flute lessons with him (latest was yesterday
) and he’s a really good teacher apart from being a living encyclopedia of welsh trad. There is also a very good ITM flute player now in these parts who I’m also having lessons with - he and Ceri sometimes meet up the pub to play and swap tunes - Diarmuid has fingers like lightening. I mostly just listen!!! (with tape machine
)They can of course both play whistles too (and in Ceri’s case quite a few other things too - including welsh pipes  ) Hmmm - we have had a few sessions at pubs round here recently but it always happens at short notice (like 2 hours before!!) depending on who is around - some quite well known welsh names comes along inclding Ceri and Julie and some of the guys from ‘Boys from the Hill’ and last time Gerard Kilbride was there and various others including Jo C’s sister (fiddle) and dad (concertina) - it was fun and I hope we’ll have more of them !
hubby is coming - must get off kine and be good wife and put food on table!!! ![]()
Bye!

Ha! I like
- I always knew they made REAL men in Scotland
you are probably out for a wee stroll through a snowdrift in yer kilt playing a beautiful tune on yer whistle right now and warm as toast!
Softy here is now cuddling the cat AND the Rayburn!

Hi Trisha - I don’t mind making a mini-mega trip across Wales - I’ve never been to Montgomeryshire (as far as I remember anyway) and a jaunt out is fun now and then - so as long as the dates we decide on dont clash with anything else and I can find my sleeping bag, you’re on as far as I’m concerned. Nice offer - thanks! ![]()
Just a quicky…
The online thingy I’ve put up is in the way of a ‘guestbook’. Trisha came up with another idea…we all bung say five or six tunes in.
After that, I (or someone!) can go through them all and pick out the ‘common’ ones, or come up with something like a set list (it’d give rank beginners like me a chance to pick up a few between now and the event?).
Re the guestbook thingy: You don’t have to put your real email address and stuff in if you don’t want to… something like “me@me.com” will do. I’m all alone in there at the moment and I can’t help wondering why ![]()
I just thought it was a quick way to capture some stuff.
Oh yes. The snow, complete with thunder and lightning (very weird) hit Swindon at around 5pm last night. Brought the M4 east-bound to a grinding halt within seconds…
