19/20 September 2003

with:

David Faulkner

Neillidh Mulligan

Pibe Bach

Concerts / Pub Sessions / Pipe wokshops / Coracles / Feast.

………………………………………………………………

David Faulkner
David is a well known & much respected piper from Devon who plays Jon Swayne border pipes- playing mostly English traditional and French inspired dance music. He is well known for his work with the Eelgrinders and the English piping supergroup Zephyrus. We had David at the Gwyl #1 and he was a knockout.

Neillidh Mulligan
Neillidh, from Dublin, has been with us twice before and also played Fishguard Folk Festival last year. He is a great solo artist and session man on the Uillean pipes.

Pibe Bach
Wales’ only professional pipe & drum band, recently returned from playing the Khareef festival in Oman. They are: Ceri Rhys Matthews, John Tose & Gerard Kilbride on Welsh pipes and Andy Jones & Chris Pitson on percussion. The music is entirely Welsh with a little Breton influence, mostly traditional and very, very loud.

Location

The festival takes place in the neighbouring villages of Pencader and Llanfihangel ar Arth which are in West Wales, about 12 miles north of CARMARTHEN.

Festival goers may camp in the field behind the Eagle pub in Llanfihangel with overnight access to the pub toilets. Other accommodation must be arranged by the festival goer- there are local B&Bs etc., and plenty more in nearby Llandysul.

I did plan to, but something came up
which meant that my weekend was occupied.

Earth shattering by some accounts

Yeah - you could say that since the 2 locations used by the festival were on different sides of the hole in the (already then closed) road!! We had to use the diversions which can be very diverse in this rural area at night!! Quite interesting wobbling out of the pub at 3 a.m. and trying to make one’s way to the other side of the hole where we parked though. (More of a landslide really - they lost a whole lane down the hill!)

Where abouts in Wales are you? Do you know about the Welsh Whistlers get together?
