Welsh Session Weekend 23-24-25 October

Hello people. This may be of interest…

http://www.sesiwn.org

There has never been any Welsh folk session festival anywhere in the world until 2009. So we’re starting one on the weekend of 23rd, 24th and 25th October this year in the Tawe Valley, above Swansea. There will be sessions in pubs in Ystalyfera on the Friday evening and in Ystradgynlais Saturday daytime and evening - see below. We’re calling it 'Sha 'Nôl, ‘Sha Mlân’. Ask if you want to know why

So if you’d like to hear, learn, play Welsh tunes, you’re more than welcome to come over. There’s a list of some tunes on our website but if you’re interested I can give you a list of some others that will undoubtedly surface wherever I am. If any chiffers are up for it, could perhaps sort out accomodation for you too - let me know.

There may be lemonade. In fact, all of the locations sell very good lemonade. And other stuff.

This is not co-incidental.

Friday Morning 10.30am - Traditional Music at the Welfare Hall’s Cafe in Ystradgynlais

Friday Evening 8pm onwards - Folk sessions at the Wern Fawr and the Red Cow, Ystalyfera

Saturday 11am - Street busking in Ystradgynlais

Saturday noon - Tune learning session at the Welfare Hall, Ystradgynlais

Saturday 2pm - Folk Session - Venue to be confirmed

Saturday Evening 8pm - Folk sessions in the Sced (Ynyscedwyn Arms) and other venues to be confirmed

Sunday Afternoon Session - Venue to be confirmed. I’m thinking of making this an E Minor Session, mournful and melancholic music a speciality, mwahahahaha!

Good luck with the week-end! I am pretty much hardcore into irish music but I’ve always been curious about Welsh music, any good Youtube clips you’d suggest listening to?

Thanks!

There are some things on Youtube. Ystradgynlais Welfare Hall, which is supporting us, has some good tune clips of Delyth Jenkins the harpist. I need to get those publicised more. I will look them up and get back to you with links.

I believe that Jem (of this Parish) has a few Welsh tunes up too. Generally, we do need to get more Welsh tune clips online. When I get a video camera I must get some up myself. Hopefully I can get someone to video the sessions of ‘Sha Nol Sha Mlan’ and get them up as well.

Popeth yn iawn. Pam? Yn saiseg, os gwelwch yn dda. My knowledge of Cymraeg is limited and the less said about my grasp of mutation the better.
Wish I could go to those sessions…Maybe oneday I will get a chance.
