Welcome Poor Paddy Home

I just heard a tune I really like, it’s called Welcome Poor Paddy Home. You can hear it on youtube here:

Anyone know where I can get the sheet music for it?

try thesession.org I get lots of songs there.

I tried thesession.org, I couldn’t find it there.

Try mudcat.org for lyrics and chords. It’s a great song!

Here’s a link to Dervish’s version

The Boys of the Lough had a nice version of it (better than Dervish IMO) but don’t have a link for it.

It is a nice tune. Hope somebody’s got the dots for it, or the ABC.

Thanks for all the tips, but I still can’t find the music for it. I’ll have to learn it the old fasioned way, by ear.

You could try contacting the guy on youtube and ask him for the dots. I had a quick look for you on JC’s tunefinder but couldn’t find it either, very strange. The session might have some method for requesting notes, I know people keep adding tunes all the time.

I would think you’d also do pretty well just watching TinWhistler’s fingers in the video…

Someone has been requesting them there for some time… alas, no fruit.

As it turns out, I wrote out the sheet music for this tune based on that YouTube clip. If you PM me your email address, I’ll send it to you. I can send a .pdf and/or a Finale Notepad file.

A clarification … this is sheet music (notes), not dots or ABC notation.

Around here, ‘sheet music’ is lovingly referred to as ‘the dots’, … though I suppose the term may be used by some for whistle tab.

Ah … that makes sense. Good to know!

A number of people have been requesting the music. I know that when I heard the tune, there was something about it that gripped me right away. It seems that I’m not the only one.

Thanks Lisa! It works well, and I really appreciate that you included the chords.

You’re welcome!

The guitar chords could easily be changed here and there … I just picked out what sounded right to my ear and threw in a few bass notes to add some interest.

The chords are always subject to interpretation, in my experience.

I did notice a couple of differences in notation, at least to my hearing… (for what that’s worth )

in the 2nd, third into 4th measure of the first part, and in several of the reitterations of it throughout, I hear EDcb | acD | d

NOTICE: I make no claims to accuracy, just sharing what I think I hear… I do not write musical notation! Don’t shoot me!

I’m not sure if I’m listening to the same part as you are, but … you’re right … there are extra notes in there. I took the liberty of deciding what was ornamentation and what was straight melody, and only wrote down the melody. Then when I played it, I added my own ornamentation. But the base melody, like the guitar chords, is also open to interpretation.
